We've put up several posts on this so far. Especially after using my Logitech webcam 10, the taskbar become transparent and unusable. The Start button also is unusable and I have to do a hard reboot. A bug, yes. The solution, unsure. Dan Sudbury, Canada |

Same issue here, or similar. After a while (no pattern known yet) the taskbar is unusable. Only thing to do is hard reboot or CTRL-ALT-DELETE and shut down. The start button, while it pop up some buttons, is non-functional. Dunno if this is a graphics card thing or a vista thing. Dan Sudbury Canada |

Same problem here. I even got a new Dell with a Vista certified graphics card, and changed flat screens and upgraded the drivers. I've noticed that this only happens with the computer is docked. Same for you? Any resolution to this problem yet? |

After hours talking with Microsoft, and after disabling one process after another and not finding the answer, I finally did. Sort of. I installed the new Tweak for Vista (http://www.totalidea.com/content/twe...kvi-index.html) and enabled some of that program's taskbar options (fade, etc.), and Tweak seems to have either stabilized the taskbar, or taken control of it. Either way, my taskbar now works, and keeps working. I'm giving up on finding a fix other than Tweak. Nevermind.... got up this AM, woke the 'puter up from the screensaver, and the taskbar was messed up. Back to seeing if it might be the keyboard, mouse or something else connected to the docking station. I'll report back. After playing with the computer undocked, I found a fix... don't use the digital connector from the docking station to the computer. There's a slight degrading of images using analog, but it doesn't cause the taskbar to corrupt. That's my fix until someone finds out how to get to the root of the problem. Never mind. That didn't do it either. Anyone find a solution? I am having exactly the same problem. The workaround I've found - to avoid a complete reboot - is to go to task manager (via ctrl-alt-delete), select and end the process "explorer" and then re-run it using the "new task" function. But it'd be great to work out why this is happening and fix it. Thanks for any help (please e-mail me directly if you can) Mike |

I've got both Microsoft and Dell working on the problem, and I've tried everything from clean and safe boots, to reinstalling Vista Business, to upgrading to Vista Ultimate. Heck, in the beginning I even thought it was a problem with my Dell 610, so I got a 620. I'll be sure and let you know if I find a fix, and of course I'd appreciate knowing if you do. I didn't see your e-mail address. SOmething is making explorer die, or freeze i would say some program which add's an plugin to explorer like Nero or say Symantec not fully compatible with Vista so explorer freezes. Kept on having issues with Nero and explorer, dllhost breaking upgraded to the newest and now my system is stable with no hick up's. -Chris |

Either Microsoft or Dell had me disable all but Microsoft stuff a couple times last week, to no avail. By the way, the taskbar problem began happening right after upgrading to Vista Business, and before I added anything except Office 2007. My problems started even before I installed Office2007. I found a microsoft support page which i think could be talking about the same problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932406/en-us It talk about a "hotfix" bit I have no idea how to get it. Can anybody help with this? Thanks so much [and my e-mail, by the way, is mike.conradi@DELETETHIS.kemplittle.com] On 19 Mar, 03:16, Missoula <Misso...@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > Either Microsoft or Dell had me disable all but Microsoft stuff a couple > times last week, to no avail. I had the same sort of problem, and the hotfix solved it. What you have to do is contact Microsoft customer support and ask for it. They will email you a link to a location where the file can be downloaded. The file installs like any other Vista update. I told the Microsoft rep about your solution, and he found a "hotfix" that may or may not be the one you're talking about. So, could you please do me a biiiiig favor and post the exact URL to the hotfix that worked for you, or at least the exact name of it? Many, many thanks!!!
