    Vista blue screen

    Hi guys

every now and then my computer starts locking up and becoming sluggish, then
after about 5minutes of doing this i get a blue screen up saying

    BAD_POOL_HEADER

then some other things saying my computer will be restarted to prevent
damage, i then restart and its fine.

I can even go upto about 5days without this blue screen coming up

any ideas on what it is and how i can fix it?

    Thanks

propably a driver issue, searching on google it seems that a lot of people
have the same problem because of drivers for their wireless network cards.
Also try disabling the Windows Search service.

    Hmmm

i dont have a wireless connection on my Vista computer so it cant be that,
    could it be my Ethernet?

i also have an ATI X1650 Pro but that has the correct Vista 32bit driver
    installed

not sure which other drivers could cause it

Thanks for putting me on the right track thow

I had the same problem with Blue Screen in Vista. All that repeated for 6 times till I reinstalled entire system and got utilities that might help to prevent BSoD. You may try System Optimizer suit to save your Vista from Blue Screen.

Have you used a kernel debugger ie. Microsoft Debugging Tools? In 9/10 BSOD cases you can figure out where the problem is or at the very least it will give you more information which you can then give us and also google (because google is our friend).

The MS Debugging Tools is somewhat complicated so i'm asking if you've already done that to save me annoying everyone with another massive post w/instructions.

If you would like me to talk you through debugging your memory dump with a view to isolating the cause let me know and i'll gladly knock you up a set of instructions. I'll tell you now though, it's not a "cake walk" but if you ask Microsoft to do it for you (which you can also do with the SRV*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols path) but it has been known for Microsoft to take anything upto 3-4 months to get back to you with a solution, if at all.

As much as i hate 'quick fixes' (they mostly are only ever bandaids on bulletholes) some software which has been causing this problem:
    ntkrpamp.exe
    p17.exe
Kapersky 7 (allegedly but i'm not buying it)
Also some folk report erroneous CPU Temp readings
The most common cause of this problem certainly seems to be ntkrpamp.exe
Some folk are getting positive results from running Prime95
and others yet more positive results from Memtest.

Admittedly many users experiencing this are simply re-installing but i try to avoid that if possible, besides, i'm also seeing many of the folk who've re-installed continuing to experience the problem so i'm not at all convinced a re-install is the solution.

I'll be back shortly as long as no one tells me otherwise and if you've had no luck i'll walk you through a full Memory Dump and Debug.

I'd like to see your debugging instructions but when hdw problems have been
eliminated as the cause or part of the cause of a BSOD, I can fix almost all
of them fairly easily using Startup Repair, the F8 menu, or the 3 of the
    bootrec switches.
