Hi, Home Premium cannot be the host, only a client. You would have to use a third party product. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Cowboy Rod" <Cowboy Rod@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F06050C9-F7FB-47BC-9EED-CB4CB0D4834F@microsoft.com... > The remote desktop client is included in all editions of Vista. Hosting should be available on all versions! Microsoft is assuming that everyone using computers is capable of sending out a request for remote assistance - they are not! Um, so if they can't use RA where they can control access of the helper, then they should be allowed to use RD where they have no control over the remote user? No, don't think so. Bad idea. RD is not designed as an remote assistance tool, it is for users to access their base machine to work remotely. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Alfred Kaufmann" <al_kaufmann@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:obbpt2lfelses151qpql1k8s68501bqt6i@4ax.com... > Hosting should be available on all versions! My tech guys at work are telling me that because I have Vista Home Premium I will not be able to use RDC to access my desktop at work. From what I've been reading, wouldn't that mean my vista laptop would be the client and not the host and that I should be able to do this? I can get the connection through our VPN site but when I try to do the RDC to my IP it will not connect. Am I wasting my time trying to find the fix? Should I just upgrade to Vista Ultimate? |

CMills... I think a co-worker of mine is having the same problem you are describing. I don't know if other people that have replied here understand exactly what you meant. It sounds like we have the same setup at work that you have. I have Vista Ultimate so I don't have a problem but my friend has Home Premium and can't get logged in to her work pc from home. You are correct when you said that you would be the client not the host but, if your work is like mine, when you are connecting to the VPN, it is actually trying to make a connection to your computer on port 3389, which is the RDP port. Since all incoming RDP connections to a Home Premium pc are blocked, apparently, that's why it's not working. I had the same problem with Vista Ultimate at first too. But I had "remote desktop" enabled on my pc, so it was using port 3389 already. when I tried connecting to my VPN at work, it was telling me that it couldn't bind to that port. as soon as i turned off "remote desktop" on my computer, I was able to get into my pc at work. Does any of this make any sense to anyone? i'm not sure if i'm explaining it right or not :) Quote:
