| Re: Destination folder access denied like Wayne, I am very aware of what "real" folders are. I am technically very capable, and can build a pc from scratch, and load any OS you'd care to name. Any answer to this? I am copying a couple files from another computer on my network. yes, the files exist. I am copying them to a folder on my local drive. I get the 'denied' message on any and all folders. any help would be appreciated. Pete "H Wayne Hayes Jr" wrote: > Ok > I absolutely realize what a real folder is. I've read in another thread somewhere that this issue was showing up when a certain antivirus product was running... can't remember if it was the source or the destination computer that was causing the problem. Try disabling your antivirus solutions and see if that helps. -- - JB Microsoft MVP - Windows Shell/User Windows Vista Support Faq http://www.jimmah.com/vista/ |

| Re: Destination folder access denied Jimmy - Thanks. However, all I have running is Windows Defender. Just to ensure that we are on the same page, here is the detailed issue. 1. From my Vista computer, I connect across to my own network two a XP computer. I have full permissions to that computer. \ 2. I browse to the location where the files are. (The files are present. I can go to the XP machine and run them from there.) 3. On my Vista machine, in a separate file explorer window, I browse to the local directory where I want to drop the new files. 4. I dragged the files from one explorer window to another. 5. I received the error. I have tried with numerous directories, with the same result. However, if I FTP to the XP machine, I can easily retrieve the files into any local Vista directory that I choose. Ok ... Just to confirm - you received access denied when trying to drag to say your desktop (where you can easily confirm that you can create a new file on that desktop and have permission, but it still returns access denied). Just out of curiosity, try dragging one of those restricted files to the following folder: %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\ And see if that works. -- - JB Microsoft MVP - Windows Shell/User Windows Vista Support Faq http://www.jimmah.com/vista/ |

I've tried that and no results. Access denied! I've been searching for the solution for a long time and i've realised that there's so many people with the same problem! No one had solved the issue! I've just asking for a microsoft official position to this. If someone find a solution to this, please tell us!! I am having the same issue as well. XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. I have full rights to the files and folders on both machines. When I copy a folder it is sucessfully created on the Vista machine but the files will cause the "Destination Folder Access Denied" dialog to pop. If/when you have anymore suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. The EVERYONE group has no permissions. The only ones listed with permissions are SYSTEM, myself, and administrators. All with full control. Just for the record, and anyone who references this thread in the future, I have tested to see if this issue was a result of me accessing the files via the administrative share of the XP machine, e.g. \\xpmachine\c$\mydocs\yadda. I wanted to test to see if MS had locked this down in some fashion. I have created a share, e.g. \\xpmachine\mydocs\yadda, attempted to copy the files, and still received the same "Destination folder access denied" dialog. Thanks again, Charlie |

Okay guys, I've been having the same problem, but I finally figured it out. I registered here just to help you guys out. Hopefully your problem with access being denied is the same as mine. Here is the fix: Go to control panel go to folder options go to the view tab click "Do not show hidden files and folders" This fixed my issue with access being denied to folders. Hopefully that will help you guys out as well. |

I have the same problem, and none of these solutions has helped. Finally, I just decided to install the freeware FolderShare (www.foldershare.com) on each of my computers and allow that program to sync files via the Internet in the background. It's a kludge, but it's less painful than everything else I've tried. Rose www.geekgirls.com "skydalimit" wrote: > > Okay guys, I've been having the same problem, but I finally figured it > out. | Re: Destination folder access denied
Guys, I'm having the same problem. I'm logged into Vista as the administrator (only the one account was setup during install). Anyway, for the first time since installing Vista, I decided to connect my 7-in-1 card reader and empty my flash card from my digital camera as there were some photos I wanted to send. Vista recognised it as a "USB 2.0 Card Reader" but doesn't have any drivers loaded for it so I can't access the photos. Tried asking it to update the driver, giving it permission to go on-line. No luck. So I then stuck the card reader into my Ubuntu box and copied the photos to a directory called "Photos" and then to a sub-directory called "Max" (for the photos from my camera) and a sub-directory called "Lesley" (for the photos from my wife's camera). I then went back to my Windows machine and found this directory (Photos) in my mapped network drives and tried to copy it (not move it) to the Vista desktop. This bought up a dialogue box saying "You need permission to perform this action", along with the name of the file. The only options are "Try again" (which fails), "Skip" (which defeats my purpose) or "Cancel" (the only thing left). I then thought it might be something to do with Vista protecting the desktop so I tried copying it to a directory within my Documents but had the same lack of success. I then thought I might be still be able to email the photo, so I tried to attach a photo by navigating to the network drive and selecting my photo but that didn't work either. Why won't Vista let me copy files from a network drive? Oh, and does anyone know what I can do regarding a driver for my generic 7-in-1 card reader that it recognises as such but can't find it's own driver for? Thanks in advance. Additional info I just went to the network drive and tried to copy just a photo by itself. No luck. Then double-clicked on it (as it was listing the files by name) to view the photo and Windows Photo Gallery opened with a message saying "Photo Gallery can't open this picture because you don't have permission to access the file location." - And yet Vista allows me to navigate in Explorer to see the files within that directory, so it does let me access that file location. Confused.
