I continually get notified that "Internet Expoloer has stopped working"...some times I then get the notice that it has restarted. What is happening. I will do this almost all the time when I try to close the program...system then hangs some of the time. |

Time to install Firefox boys. Try resetting Internet Explorer settings, Open Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > under " Reset Internet Explorer settings, click "Reset". Start > Help > Type in " Reinstall Internet Explorer " (without the quotes) You'll get 60 results - start with the first - Repair Internet Explorer. There doesn't seem to be a way, anymore, to reinstall just IE7 in Vista - you'd have to reinstall the OS - but asking for it doubles the Help hits. It's probably an Add-on/Plug-in causing your grief. Start it with Add on's disabled and see what you come up with. Seems to have resolved the problem I was having. |

There was never a way to just reinstall IE6 in Win XP--unless reinstalling XP SP2 would have helped. There were many ways to try to repair it including but not limited to SFC and rereging .dlls via regsvr32 and a spate of MSKBs on IE connection/functionality problems. True in that instance, but how many people have resisted XP SP2 given it's required now for IE7 and a number of other updates. I'd have gone with SFC and if needed, a repair install. I have gotten some milage out of reinstalling SP2 also. But your point is well taken. I have same problem. See post 'Internet Explorer'. I tried all the suggestions |

| Re: Internet Explorer has stopped working
I suppose it depends upon which XP you mean. The reinstall is in the KB for XP SP1 and earlier - modify the "is installed" bit to zero: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q318378 |

Had exactly the same problem. Turned out that the version of Omnipage SE installed with my canon scanner had a link into IE - removing Omnipage fixed the problem. Everything now working perfectly. Yep, I had the same problem as well. Resetting Internet Explorer settings fixed the problem instantly. Is there a fix for the IE stopped working that anybody knows of. This just started on my computer and it is 12/2009 whereas previous issues listed were in 2007 and 2008. Please help out. I have been having the same issue intermitently for many months and I finally got so fed up that I searched for forums and found this one. I followed the first advice and reset IE to default settings. M y browser toolbar is a little changed now but so far the several websites I could count on for trouble have been no trouble since. Good luck..oh I run Vista OS.. |

Your suggestion worked for me. Would have never figured it out. Fortunately I also have Firefox as a second browser which permitted me to go online, come here, and find your solution. I've concluded it is prudent to have both browsers. I guess by this time you have fixed it, however if you have'nt go to Control panel, Internet options find manage add-ons and EITHER DISABLE THE ALL or if you have time select one and disable it and then another it takes a while. Now if you can just tell me how to erase IE6 fron my c drive!! PLEASE!! As a computer novice I get frustrated every time I get sent on the never ending search route. I agree with Roscoe, the quickest solution is to abandon the help loops and switch to Firefox. I'll be pleased to revert to IE if Microsoft contact me with a swift and simple solution. |

| Nope - That doesn't work
I disabled all the add-ons, reset the options and don't have Omnipage SE. I've also heard that Yahoo IM and Skype plugins can cause this - both un-installed. One person suggested that Office can cause this problem if it needs repairing. I did that - still have a copy of IE7 which generates the error every time I try to close it. I guess Roscoe had the right idea 'Time to install Firefox boys.' |

| Re: Internet Explorer has stopped working
My problem is a little different and have searched all over the internet for solutions! I'm running Vista with Internet Explorer 7 (originally, anyway). I usually use Firefox but must use IE for access to some of my college sites. Certain college sites work on FF, but then even FF started bugging out on me. So i quickly downloaded Opera as a 3rd backup. Opera has not had any problems connecting to date, but in the meantime: IE will not connect AT ALL, and FF will connect sometimes. (Whether FF will connect or not seems completely random.) The error message i get with IE (after waiting a very long time for a page to try loading) is: •Internet connectivity has been lost. •The website is temporarily unavailable. •The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable. •The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain. •There might be a typing error in the address. •If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section. etc etc etc After MONTHS of not being able to get IE7 operating, I made the mistake of taking someone's advise of uninstalling IE7 and installing IE8-Beta for Vista. After doing so, i am still facing the very same problem & error message. I've tried so many different suggestions prior to uninstalling IE7, and now i just don't know what to do. I'd like to remove IE8 and try re-installing IE7 (*if* i can find the download for Vista 34! Does anyone know if there is a download for IE7 for Vista 34??) -However: how can i uninstall IE8 when it does not appear in the Add/Remove programs list? I am completely flustered. Final exams are here, and i'm terrified that i will lose connectivity with Opera as well & lose all connectivity while trying to get through this next week! Has anyone else been experiencing similar problems here -and if so: any solutions? (Please have mercy on me: i do well with basic computer skills, but am definitely not up to date with much of the computer terminology -nor am i savy enough to follow instructions for making changes to system registry, etc.) |

I did what you said and now I.E. is working properly. However I don't think I want to deal with Firefox any more. |

Vista, if you get a pop-up message each time you log out of the Internet Explorer", that states "Internet Explorer has stopped working",follow these steps: (I've pretty much tried every other solution, but was not successful), but this did work for me....Yipeeeee! Go to Internet Explorer Click on Tools - on the right side Click on Internet Explorer at the bottom of Go to the General Tab Check the box that says, Delete the browsing history on exit Click Delete Click Apply Click Ok Go to the Advanced Box in the Internet options Click on Reset Check the box that says, Delete personal settings Go out of intenet explorer Sign back into internet explorer You Should be good to go!
