| medieval 2 total war
Hi Guys, I'm trying to run Medieval 2 total war on my Vista 64 box. When I go to launch the game I get the error "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_30.dll was not fould. Re-installing the application my fix the problem". I have tried setting the app to run in compatibility mode (xp sp2, 2k) however, to no avail. This is the only game in which I've had this type of error as other DX 9 games work fine. Any suggestions? Also, I'm running the latest x64 Vista Catalyst drivers. |

The dll might be an unsigned copy protection driver. See my post on Anno 1701. Do they have a forum? |

Colin, What eror does your game throw back? The d3dx9_30.dll is a direct 3d / direct draw 9 library. |

Hello, running the DirectX setup program on the disc should do the trick. There's a few different versions of DirectX 9c out there and this sort of error message is quite common with newer games. If that fails post back and we'll sort out copying the file manually. |

Mine throws an Unsigned Driver error. Sorry, I was taking a guess at what it might be. I'll go back in my hole now. :) |

Doesn't vista contain Direct X 10? I thought this would supply DX functionality. Why didn't 9 cause an issue here? Yes. You may verify by clicking the Start Orb and typing "dxdiag" in the Start Search box. |

The system still has version 9, as 10 isn't backwards compatible. And just like on Windows XP with the latest released version of DirectX 9, some games use slightly different versions, I'm guessing because they're developed against different SDKs which require the version shipped on the disc to be installed. |

| Re: medieval 2 total war
Hi Guys, I've been watching this thread with some interest. I have the same problem with Medieval 2. The same error popped up and I worked around it by copying the file (from my xp install) into Vista's \Windows\System directory. The game loads but there is heavy on screen corruption. My specs are a bit different from Johnathonm's I have a: AMD Opteron 175 2 GB Ram Nvidia 7800 GT Extreme X-FI Xtreme Music at first I though perhaps the reason for the corruption which renders the game quite unplayable was due to Nvidia's beta drivers. I now have the latest RTM drivers (I'm running the RTM x64 build of Vista) but I get the same result. I havn't tried Paul's suggestion of loading the direct x 9.0c drivers which came on the game disk yet. Not sure if its wise - will a directx 9 install play havoc with the DX10 install or some other part of Vista's subsystem? Given Johnathonm's got a ATI card and is getting the same results as me with an Nvidia card, I assume this is a Vista issue. The other thing to note about this game is that Creative's drivers for X-Fi (released in Dec 06) are a great improvement but provide no support as yet for EAX games in Vista. Apparently they will be implementing an OpenAL to EAX conversion layer in the final release of the driver. Any help, comments etc greatly appreciated. :D |

Quick update got it to work:D - heres how used nvidia latest drivers for vista rtm. Then used MS update to get WDM drivers for card (happens in auto update) installed those and it works! Have you attempted right clicking and selecting run as administrator? |

i have installed Medieval 2. Total war on my windows vista home premium, 32 bit system. When i go to play the game, i double click the icon on my desktop, it begins to load, the brings up "Cannot Locate DVD-ROM" error message. if memory serves me correct, this game has worked on here before. and no other game has this problem, i just recently played and beat Rome: Total War. does anybody know whats the problem? |
