    Vista not responding

After leaving my computer on for about an hour (varies greatly every time)
programs stop responding. if i try to open another program it either doesn't
open or opens and stops responding as soon as it does. I can't shutdown the
programs in task manager because when i hit ctrl+alt+del it either does
nothing or i see my background and a message titled "logon has failed to
create security options dialogue" with the message "failure - security
options". This is a very annyoing problem which i have no idea how to fix. I
    have a Athlon 64 3500, 1GB RAM, AC'97 audio (GAK8NF9 mobo) 2 160 GB segate
hdd's and an ATI Radeon x850xt.

    Hi Tim
I think your problem may be with the default power settings. Go to the
Control Panel/Power options. Select Put the computer to sleep. Then click
Never. The hibernate and sleep facilities in Vista are a wee bit erratic.

    Re: Vista not responding

I am having exactly the same problem and it is maddening. The complete text of the error box is this:

Failure - Security Options -- Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog.

This is when I try to get to Task Manager by pressing CONTROL-ALT-DELETE. If I right-click the taskbar and choose "Task Manager," I don't get an error message, but Task Manager never starts, either. Basically, nothing happens.

Programs stop responding, Everything starts going very slowly, and I can't even shut down without a hard reboot (turning off the power switch).

I never had this problem with any previous beta, only with RC2 (build 5744).

This is horrible. I don't know if maybe I should try a system restore with an autosaved restore point from a few days ago? I only started having the problem within the past 2-3 days.

I am constantly having to shut off the computer and turn it back on. This is completely unacceptable OS behavior :P. I thought Vista was supposed to have *improved* stability.

Someone suggested that this had something to do with the power saving features of Vista. I can definitely contradict that claim. I have my settings set to never shut off hard disks or monitors, never allow hibernating, etc. Still, I have this problem.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    RE: Vista not responding

Cillin virus??? well i disabled mine in safemode via MSconfig, and now my
system is fine, so the problem is that program, i went to uninstall it and

that my problem started.. let me know if this helps!

    Dreaded Message

After getting the dreaded 'Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog' my pc totally locked up. I couldn't get into task mgr. or anywhere else. Every time I shut it down it resumed in the same state. Finally took battery out & put back in. :) Good for now.

so now you look like a moron.
