    1. Start regedit.
    2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile (that's a lower case L)
    3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.

    Logoff and... Enjoy!

    Michael,

There is no data entered in that key. The value is blank in RC1!

It's not blank in my registry. I used this same
    setting in build 5384, too.

I don't know what to tell you guys.

Re: How do you get rid of shortcut arrows in vista?

I've done both on two different machines.

This was one of the first things I changed when
    I installed (clean) build 5384 aka Beta2.

See attachment. This is in my copy of Vista RC1
as it was in Vista Beta2.

Is "lnkfile" there? Does it have the entry
    "IsShortcut"? Delete "IsShortcut".

That key was in my RC1 x64 too. It isn't now though ;)

Re: How do you get rid of shortcut arrows in vista?

I've always thought those shortcut arrows were just
useless. Now that the icons in Vista are so much prettier-
they need to show in all their glory. ;-)

Re: How do you get rid of shortcut arrows in vista?

Just an FYI: I can confirm that this will remove the Shortcut arrows from
the Desktop Icons, but it will ALSO prevent the items from displaying in
your Favorite Links (above the Folder listing on the left side in Windows
    Explorer).

Re: How do you get rid of shortcut arrows in vista?

    Hi all,
Check out this site. This guy has a patch that will get rid of the shortcut
arrow without the side effects of deleting the IsShortcut key. It really
    works great. I'm using RC2.

vista get rid of the shortcut to

Vista Home Premium X64 build 6000 updates and SP1.
No such registry enty as the ones in your forum to get rid of nasty Vista shortcut arrow, and noting anywhere that says HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile (that's a lower case L)
    3. Delete the IsShortcut registry value.
Nor anything like in in my registry?

WHO are you talking to? Look at all the posts in "your forum" - which
leeches most of its messages from Microsoft servers - from folks
    listed as a "guest".

NONE of them can see what you are talking about, because NONE of them
    are registered there.
