| Search Protocol Host... running it will use over a gig of memory, and eventually slow my computer to a crawl in which i restart and the problem persists after rebooting. the only way to terminate the process is in task manager and terminating the process tree, but it instantly restarts. Has anyone else had this problem? I think i may rename it right now then shut it down, and see if that will help. |

I've been running Vista for 2 weeks now and I just started to have this problem. I can't get it to go away... did you have any luck? Is any one out there? It is strange to think that we are the only two people with this problem. I cant figure out how to turn off search indexing... anyone know anything about that? I am also having a problem with searchprotocolhost.exe has stopped working. It seems when I am doing some type of SEARCH on my computer weather it is with windows media player searching for media or right clicking on start then explore when I click on explore the computer does a SEARCH for files on the hard drive then searchprotocolhost.exe has stopped working shows up if I do a ctrl alt del and then go to task manager then click End Task well that don't work for me either. So if any one comes up with any ideas let me know please! "Wayner" wrote: > What is the search protocol host and how do i turn it off. I am having a similar problem. Windows Search Protocol Host crashes all the time now after 1 week of using 5472. I did not have this issue with Beta 2 only since I "upgraded" to 5472. It is making the computer almost unuseable. A work around would be nice, I have tried setting the windows search service to manual but it did not solve the issue. -- Francois Lafortune "thunderbird53" wrote: > I am also having a problem with searchprotocolhost.exe has stopped working. > It seems when I am doing some type of SEARCH on my computer weather it is > with windows media player searching for media or right clicking on start then > explore when I click on explore the computer does a SEARCH for files on the > hard drive then searchprotocolhost.exe has stopped working shows up if I do a > ctrl alt del and then go to task manager then click End Task well that don't > work for me either. I am also having an issue with SearchProtocolHost.exe and it is says "SearchProtocolHost.exe stopped working and was closed". It is happening quite often and is happening when I am not even search for anything. Playing a game and BOOM my game minimizes because this stupid SearchProtocolHost.exe has stopped working and it has to pop up this nice little window. Help with this would be nice. Thank you. I am having the same problem w/ searchprotocolhost.exe. It pegs out my cpu wide open, and I can't end the process. My 1st install of vista did it, so I reinstalled. It worked again for a while then it started again. How do you report this problem to Microsoft? "Wayner" wrote: > What is the search protocol host and how do i turn it off.
