| Windows Explorer Crashes when entering Video Folder
Is anyone experienced the above problem.... I have large amounts of different format videos in my video folder, whenever I try to go into the folder, no matter which way, either via explorer, or via windows media, I always get a crash, windows seems to be tryin to thumbnail the videos but fails and crashes, any suggestions |

| Re: Windows Explorer Crashes when entering Video Folder
Sounds like a variant of the disk-thrashing problem that occurs on many earlier versions of Windows when many large video files are in a single folder. The work-around for that is to disable a number of the file-handlers so that they can't do thumbnail extraction. I don't recall the exact procedure, but a careful web-search on the symptoms should turn it up. |

I've only got 6 videos in my folder. Explorer shows the thumbnails OK but crashes ALWAYS immediately after that. Umpteen reports have gone off, but I've had nothing back yet. Basically I have to use good old DOS commands on that folder. I couldn't get to the vistabase site listed. yes it does the same to me I am having the exact some problem. |

Try disabling DEP. Open command prompt as ADMIN and type: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff reboot and see if it helps. |

File DEP under unintended consequences. Oops, getting ahead of myself. I'll wager a lot don't know what DEP is. If you have some unexplained Window issues like Windows Explorer crashing or similar such things take a few minutes to get up to speed on Data Execution Prevention or DEP, |

Had the same problem, as you say seems like a problem loading thumbnails, found a workaround for XP users: Open My Documents > view (select anything but thumbnails) Click Tools > Folder options > View Tab > click Apply to all folders > click yes My videos will now open without crashing, changing the view of my videos back to thumbnails causes the problem to reoccur. |

| Re: Windows Explorer Crashes when entering Video Folder
I realize this is an old thread, but I found it while searching for a similar problem. The problem described above is more than likely a codec problem. When you open folders that display thumbnails, the codec is used to create the thumbnail for any videos it decodes. If you have a lot of different video formats in the same folder, try moving one at a time to a new folder then view thumbnails there until you find the format that isn't working. Then, update the codec for that video format. |

| Re: Windows Explorer Crashes when entering Video Folder Can you try to uninstall/reinstall the any codec pack that is installed in your computer. Another solution would be to uninstall all the third party codec packs and media players you may have installed and install the K-lite codec pack instead which has been tested against incompatibility issues. Test this by changing the view to "list" or "small icons". If the problem goes away you've narrowed the problem to thumbnails.

| Re: Windows Explorer Crashes when entering Video Folder Codec Pack are nothing but software that handles different video file formats. You just need to go to control panel and from there you have to check what all software's are installed in your computer. Once you find out that any codecs are installed, then immediately remove it and then reboot your computer and download k-lite codec pro and install it in your computer.
