    Lotus Approach from Smartsuite 9.8 - need help

    All the files in the latest Lotus Smartsuite 9.8 run except for
    Approach. Error messge :
    "could not find smarticons. Please run install.exe to re-install
    Lotus.

    Approach works in Windows XP and SBS 2003. The swarticons are on the
    hard drive.

    I even found the *.smi and re-associated them with Lotus Approach.

    Any suggestions besides re-install Lotus.

    thanks

    Have you tried running it in compatibility. Check the properties of the
    executable under > Compatibility (tab).

    Contact the manufacture (Corel now I believe) and see what their plans are
    for Vista in the future.
    Lotus has always been a bit funny - we have it running on our server as a
    DTP product and it's no match for Office to be honest.

    Re: Lotus Approach from Smartsuite 9.8 - need help

    I tend to disagree. Lotus Smartsuite works under SBS 2003 and XP. It
    should run under Vista unless something in the Vista broke Lotus
    Approach.

    IBM support has no answer. I expect that there will be a new version
    next year.
    I agree the Lotus Smartsuite is a dead program with little future.

    Solution to multiuser Approach issue

    The problem lies in the fact that user settings are only stored for the user who installed the product.
    I solved this by replacing the shortcut to approach.exe by an own vbs file.
    This first creates the HKCU\Software\Lotus\Approach\97.0\Paths registry entries before starting the executable.

    See if this helps.

    Good luck.

    It's right but it's not probably complete solution..

    Hi.
    We have multiuser environment (users do not have admin rights).
    I added this keys to the registry of the user manually HKCU\Software\Lotus\Approach\97.0\Paths and changed the paths leading to admin profile to the user profile.
    Then the error message (about smarticons missing) did not appear during startup of Lotus Approach, but the splash screen is hanging and program is not launched.
    Is there something else I should change in the settings to get approach work?
    Thank you for you help.

    Dear LennyBel,

    You don't need to be admin to get this information in the HKCU section of your registry.
    HKCU = HKey_Current_User
    The user already has full access to this section.
    I'll just give you the script that I am running.
    Just try it out and let me know if it works.

    You will need to modify the value to apply to your environment.

    Here is the code of my script:

    Option Explicit
    Dim objShell, Demo, Icons, Player, Sample, Tour, sMasters, Work
    Dim DemoKey, IconsKey1, IconsKey2, PlayerKey, SampleKey, TourKey, sMastersKey, WorkKey
    Dim DemoVal, IconsVal, PlayerVal, SampleVal, TourVal, sMastersVal, WorkVal
    Dim strValue, strKey, strPath, Command

    ' Set the string values
    strKey = "RegInfoPath" ' New Key
    strValue = "G:\Programs\lotus\approach\approach.ri"
    strPath = "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus\Approach\97.0\Paths\"
    Demo = "Demo\"
    DemoKey = "NL"
    DemoVal = "G:\Programs\lotus\approach\demo\"
    Icons = "Icons\"
    IconsKey1 = "ExtensionNL"
    IconsKey2 = "NL"
    IconsVal = "G:\Programs\lotus\approach\Icons\"
    Player = "Player\"
    PlayerKey = "NL"
    PlayerVal = "G:\Programs\lotus\compnent\player\"
    Sample = "Samples\"
    SampleKey = "NL"
    SampleVal = "G:\Programs\lotus\samples\approach\"
    SMasters = "SMasters\"
    SMastersKey = "NL"
    SMastersVal = "G:\Programs\lotus\Smasters\approach\"
    Tour = "Tour\"
    TourKey = "NL"
    TourVal = "G:\Programs\lotus\approach\tour\"
    Work = "Work\"
    WorkKey = "NL"
    WorkVal = "G:\Programs\lotus\werk\approach\"

    Command = "G:\programs\lotus\approach\approach.exe"

    ' Create the Shell object
    Set objShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

    objShell.RegWrite strPath & strKey, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & strKey, strValue, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Demo & DemoKey, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Demo & DemoKey, DemoVal, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Icons & IconsKey1, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Icons & IconsKey2, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Icons & IconsKey2, IconsVal, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Player & PlayerKey, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Player & PlayerKey, PlayerVal, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Sample & SampleKey, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Sample & SampleKey, SampleVal, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & SMasters & SMastersKey, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & SMasters & SMastersKey, SMastersVal, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Tour & TourKey, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Tour & TourKey, TourVal, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Work & WorkKey, 1, "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite strPath & Work & WorkKey, WorkVal, "REG_SZ"

    objShell.Run Command
