Windows cannot find Word 2007 docs in Explorer

Hi, I have Vista Business and Office 2007, both registered. When I try to
open a Word doc in Explorer, I always get the error message 'Windows cannot
find the file specified. Make sure you have typed the name correctly', and
Word starts but with an empty Window.

My file path is correct, the default path to my Documents in Word Options is
correct, so it's weird. I reinstalled Word with no success. I have seen the
problem reported a couple of times on the Net, but no solution. What could be
the problem?

I can open the files within Word, of course.

Try typing in docx instead of doc. Word 2007 files are named docx (notice the x after doc). This was changed with Office 2007

Hi, this makes absolutely no difference. If I merely rename the file
extension .docx (even though it's a Word 2003 file) I get the same error, and
so I opened the file within Word and saved it as a Word 2007 file (.docx). I
then went back to Explorer and clicked to open it and sure enough I got the
same 'can't find file' message.

Once again, I can confirm that the pathnames are correct.

the forum you advised me to post to has offered no replies to my
question. The issue has been reported on the Net, both re. Vista and XP, and
for programs other than Word.

OK, sorry you did not get an answer there.

I helped someone just today having this same problem and turning off the
automatic virus scanning when opening a document with Word 2007 solved the
problem.

I have started a thread about this in Word 2007 Application Erriors. An
earlier thread from some months back found no resolution.

Why is this dreadful error still unresolved?
