Vista SP2 - Error 80073712 corrupt files with 64-bit Vista SP2 download failure

I have Vista 64 bit home edition that came loaded on my computer, and have tried all the suggested fixes (prohibited from reinstalling SP1; ran the Update Readiness Tool; ran a different update tool from this forum; tried to install the update separately in Clean Boot mode; do not have a file "pending.xml" to rename) to get Service Pack 2 to load, without success.

I have TWO corrupt files that need to be replaced, but I have no idea how to get functional copies of these files. The corrupt files (from the Update Readiness Tool CHS log) are

winsxs\manifests\wow_64_microsoft-windows-wpfcorecomp_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18096_none_0 a4c4cd82b5b4d4f.manifest

winsxs\manifests\msil_system.xml.resources_b77a5c5 61934e089_6.0.6000.20935_en-us_609f9f60396a36f1.manifest

Can anyone tell me how to get functional files to replace these corrupt ones, and how to do the replacement? (I've already taken ownership of the folders.)

I'm attaching here required files here: 17664,download
it and unpack anywhere

1.Navigate to *C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests* folder,takeownership of
this folder and add your account to have full control
2.Copy my file to this folder -Even if you have already this file then
replace it.
3.Remove your account from permissions to Manifests folder
4.Restore ownership of Packages folder back to "NT
Service\TrustedInstaller"

Flavius, it worked! Thank you SO much! It so much better than having to restore the whole operating system - your amazing assistance is invaluable!
