    error code 80073712

Hi, this is Windows vista which i keep updated with all recent patches available through Windows Updates. Yesterday i received several updates. Allowed them all to install. All of them got installed without any problem except the one, kb954155. It failed with an error code 80073712. I tried installing it several times but ends up with the same error code. Even trying to do stand alone update wont helps much. Somebody suggested me to go into the datastore and remove the folders in there to try and get it to install. Well i did that as well but yet unsuccessful. Hope somebody from here can help me out with this. Many thanks.

I dont know what could be the exact cause of this problem but i guess the tool provided in the following MS KB will surely help you out. Just check the following:
'Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, and for Windows 7': http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

    Re: error code 80073712

As far as i know the error code 80073712 refers to corruption of files in
C:\Windows\Servicing and C:\Windows\WinSxS folders. If it is so it can be fixed easily by running Readiness Tool. This tool will create CheckSur.log file in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder. Run the same and paste that log file here to analyze the problem properly.

Until then you can also try this one with aggressive mode:'How do I reset Windows Update components?' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058)

    Re: error code 80073712

Hello Frragrant. I dont think that Error Code 80073712 has anything to do with the Datastore subfolder. It surely because of file corruption in WinSxS. Did you run the System Update Readiness Tool as Flavius had previously suggested? If not, do it right now.

For more help on the same you should check the following: Error 80073712 is listed on the error table and running CheckSUR should resolve it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

Re: error code 80073712 HELP PLEASE!

I have Vista 64 bit home edition, and have tried all the suggested fixes to get Service Pack 2 to load, without success. I do not have the pending.xml file to delete or rename. I have TWO corrupt files that need to be replaced, but I have no idea how to get functional copies of these files. The corrupt files are

    winsxs\manifests\wow_64_microsoft-windows-wpfcorecomp_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18096_none_0a4c4cd82b5b4d4f.manifest

    winsxs\manifests\msil_system.xml.resources_b77a5c561934e089_6.0.6000.20935_en-us_609f9f60396a36f1.manifest

Can anyone tell me how to get functional files to replace these corrupt ones, and how to do the replacement? (I've already taken ownership of the folders)

Flavius, thank you SO much! I am writing this reply on my computer with the SP2 completely installed - thanks to your sending me intact copies of the corrupt files. What a relief! Many, many, thanks for your wonderful help!

Same problem, as per thread, ran CheckSur, report was as follows:

    Summary:
    Seconds executed: 2865
    Found 2 errors
CSI Manifest All Zeros Total count: 2
    Unavailable repair files:
    winsxs\manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-m..ayer-core.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6001.18528_en-us_7f8cca9f9a08513f.manifest

Don't have full Vista disk, can anyone provide me with these two files?

Running Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

    Thanks.
