| Vista startup lock-up/0xc00000e9
Hi, I recently pulled a friend's ASUS G50V running on Windows Vista Home Premium x64 out to try and repair. The notebook itself is about 14 months old, but was only running for about 3 before it began giving him problems. He shelved it and bought a new one, and recently offered it to me if I could get it running..but post 12 month warrenty and lack of startup/backup discs is giving me hell. Anyways, here's what it's doing, and what I've tried so far. Specs: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00GHz Processor 4096MB System Memory Grand total of four programs installed on it. Spysweeper, FFXI, Yahoo! Messenger, and AIM. The first time I booted it up, it started just fine. Got to the desktop, seemed to be running at a snails pace, but running. It slowed down over a 30 second period until it came to a standstill, except for the mouse. Mouse worked fine, caps lock/numlock respond, but everything else was frozen. Restart in safe mode, same situation. After restarting again, quickly opening up taskbar and shutting down, it went to "Windows is shutting down" blackscreen, progress bar moved for about half an hour and never shut down. Upon reloading, desktop never came up, computer was stuck on Vista loading screen. Stayed this way for 5-6 restarts, so I went into Bios and loaded Manufacture Defualts, which put me back on square one. On the screen loading Bios, there was a line of "Cannot detect TPM device!", but it doesn't come up every time. I Googled this and found little to no information on it, and what there was, you needed to be able to access program files to fix it. At some point on restart(at desktop), an error showed up on the Yahoo! Messenger icon, computer froze up before I could write it down, but was "corrupt file xxx" and "please run DskChkr"; sorry I can't give more info about that. Ran Disc Checker which removed and replaced three files, but seemed to have no effect on restart. After all this I went into Windows Boot Manager > Windows Setup [EMS Enabled], took me to black screen "Windows is loading files..." which gets to about 30% and stops. I then get: [Windows has encounted a problem communicating with a decice connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external usb drive wile the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer. Status: 0x00000e9 Info: An unexpected I/O error has occured.] And at this point I'm stuck. No matter what, it will not go past this. If I restart it comes to this automatically, If I continue or escape it brings me right back to "Windows is loading files..." If any of you are still awake by the end of this post, any advice? Is this something I simply wont be able to solve without a new OS, or is there an alternative. I don't have a problem buying a new Vista Home Premium, but I'd like to get it running sooner than later, and a new OS is a few months from now. If anyone has any suggestions, please assist, and thank you for your time. |

| Re: Vista startup lock-up/0xc00000e9 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module It sounds like faulty hardware. Turn on TPM in BIOS (if it's an option).Turn off all hardware that the BIOS allows. Your error number is wrong. 0xe9 is ACTIVE_EX_WORKER_THREAD_TERMINATION The ACTIVE_EX_WORKER_THREAD_TERMINATION bug check has a value of 0x000000E9. This indicates that an active executive worker thread is being terminated. You perhaps mean 0xc000000e9 // // MessageId: STATUS_UNEXPECTED_IO_ERROR // // MessageText: // // If an I/O error is returned which is not defined in the standard FsRtl filter, it is converted to the following error which is guaranteed to be in the filter. // In this case information is lost, however, the filter correctly handles the exception. // #define STATUS_UNEXPECTED_IO_ERROR ((NTSTATUS)0xC00000E9L) -- .. -- "Sefk" <Sefk.3xi4rb@DoNotSpam.com> wrote in message news:Sefk.3xi4rb@DoNotSpam.com... > > Hi, > > I recently pulled a friend's ASUS G50V running on Windows Vista Home > Premium x64 out to try and repair. If anyone has any suggestions, please assist, If you tried long enough, you might get somewhere. Usually Vista has a way of fixing itself, the trick is to find it, unless the system is badly infected, but only your friend could tell you about that. reply #1, Thanks for posting. I went into BIOS, turned off all available hardware, but could not find anything related to TPM. Unfortunately I still cannot get past the (( Status: 0xc00000e9 )) screen. I'm not sure if your "0xc0^000000e9" was a typo or if that absence of an 0 means anything, but in parentheses is for sure the exact status code. Harry, Thankyou for the reply. He could not mention anything in particular that struck him as odd in the three months he had it, prior to the failure. As I said, he got the computer brand new, and only had four programs installed on it. The same four programs he has on his current PC, and he certainly isn't having any problems with it. Also, I got into Windows Boot Manager by hitting F-8, yes, which has got me stuck in this current loop, where I cannot get past the I/O error. However! When I went back to check the I/O Status Code for the first poster, I saw something I didn't see before on the (F8) screen.. When I select Windows Memory Diagnostic, I get: [Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2. Choose your language setting, and then click "Next". 3. Click "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: \boot\memtest.exe Status: 0xc000000f Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.] How simple this would be with a couple of discs. I am not sure if this error is in any way related to the I/O error, which seems to be concerned with hardware. I do not understand why I'm stuck in this current loop however, which didn't startup until I ran F8 to begin with. :( At any rate, this isn't do or die..I don't NEED this for school or work, and I will try to not let it frustrate me too much. I just like doing things like this, and it's no fun when the other three people in the house couldn't care less about their computer as long as their yahoo! and Firefox start up. |
