What is the make of your PC? The steps are slightly different depending
on make.

1. On an OEM machine (HP, Sony, etc.) which came with Vista preinstalled -
read the fine manual that came with your computer or go to the computer
mftr.'s website for how to restore to factory condition. Most of these types
of machines are set up to run the factory recovery process after pressing a
function key (like F11) when the computer first starts up. This differs from
mftr. to mftr. so you will need to check with yours.

2. On a generic/home-built machine where you installed Vista yourself:

How to install Windows Vista - covers upgrade and clean install -

When your CPU is very busy, you could check with Process Explorer (
'Process Explorer'
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx) ) what's
going on. If you click on "CPU" above, all the CPU intensive processes
will come up on top. When you hover over a process, you get more info.
When you right click on a process and go to Properties, you get even
more information.
But sometimes the CPU can be busy because it is doing some housekeeping
work - e.g. writing a restore point. Especially a more modest CPU can be
easily kept busy by the system for a couple of moments.
