Windows defender

I have read many replys to what I need to do--however, I still can not fix my problem. They have had me download Detective Driver and RegTool saying this would fix my problem--alas, nothing seems to work.

When my computer starts up Windows Defender open with--Application failed to initialize 0x8001061ba.... I have tried to go to the turn it off, but when I go into startup programs, this message also pops up....So, I can not see what is on my startup. I have asked about reinstalling it and this is where I am at...asking more questions. Help!

Re: Windows defender

Sound as though your PC is infected, and in downloading Detective Driver &
RegTool you have probably made it worse
There are numerous posts here on how to clean up your PC when its infected,
eg

Download, install, run, update and perform a full scan (separately) with the
following two applications (freeware versions are the ones to use for this):

SuperAntiSpyware

MalwareBytes

After performing a full scan with one and then the other and removing
whatever they both find completely, you may uninstall these products,
if you wish.

RE: Windows defender

Hello jriggs01,

To add to DL's excellent comments--

Please bear in mind that You cannot uninstall Windows Defender on Vista--it
is a part of the OS.
-=-

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current?
[antivirus/anti-malware/cookie or popup blocker/or, any security
software that monitors the registry keys for changes]
-=-

What anti-spyware applications (other than Windows Defender)?
-=-

What third-party firewall (if any)?
-=-

In Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

Scroll down to find 'Windows Defender'.

Right-click, then select 'Properties'.

In the 'General' tab the 'Startup type' was set to 'Manual'.

I changed it to 'Automatic' then selected 'Apply' > 'OK'.

A re-start got rid of the error message.

-or-

One thing I can think of is to try running the command "sfc /scannow"
in a elevated command prompt.

How Open Command Prompt as Administrator on Elevation in Vista

Run SFC to see if any file from the OS has been delete or corrupt.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".

Type in:

SFC /SCANNOW

and press your Enter key.
-=-

I hope this helps.

Please let us know what fixes the problem or if the pяoblem remains
