Can't change network settings from public to private

I had set my laptop network settings to public a week ago when i was out but now after returning to my place i am not able to change it back to private. I am not able to turn on the file sharing as well. Some people had suggested me to install activeX and lower the security settings, i did that but no luck yet. Is there anything i can try out to fix this issue???

I have the same problem of not being able to reset network from public to home.

I have found Microsoft to be very unhelpful. Makes me wish I had bought a MAC instead of a Micros__t product.

I really feel that Microsoft does not want anything more to do with Vista. They seem to want everyone to upgrade to Win7 or Win8 now....
