32 bit windows explorer in Vista 64 bit version

I'm trying to see 'thumbnail' previews of graphic files (Microsoft Photodraw
..mix extension, adobe illustrator .ai, photoshop .psd, etc.) which ALL worked
in Windows XP but now they do not work in Vista.

I had a prior thread on there than said to do the following, but that does
not work. Any idea on how to use the 32 bit windows explorer on a 64 bit
vista o/s to show thumbnail previews of graphic files?

Thank you! --Alan

The answer I got prior that does not work:

"Workaround for this .

Use 32 bit windows explorer on vista 64 bit

which works from C:\windows\SysWOW64\explorer.exe
(64 bit Windows explorer works from c:\windows\explorer.exe)

Steps
1 right cick on desktop >New > shortcut .On "Type the location of this item:"
2 >Copy & Paste the following without quotes
"%Systemroot%\SysWOW64\explorer.exe /separate" click on Next
On "Type a name for this shortcut:" Name it as "Windows 32 bit Explorer"
3 Click on Finish.

To Open "My Computer" with 32 bit windows (which Known as "Computer" in
Vista )

Steps
1 right cick on desktop >New > shortcut . on "Type the location of this
item:"
2 >Copy & Paste the following without quotes
"%Systemroot%\SysWOW64\explorer.exe /separate /e,
::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}" click on Next
On "Type a name for this shortcut:" Name it as "Computer 32 bit Explorer"
(or as desired )
3 Click on Finish.

Thank

Re: 32 bit windows explorer in Vista 64 bit version

Well we'll fix that goshdarnit, you betcha.

1) Hit the windows key in the left corner of keyboard next to ctrl key and
the r key at the same time and up pops the run box. That's "r" for run box.
2) Type control folders into run box>enter>view tab.
3) Take the checkmark out of that first box which reads "Always show icons
never thumbnails." Keep the check in that 3rd box which reads "Display file
icon on thumbnails."
4) Open the folder that contains the image files.
5) This step is essential. At the top of the dialogue box on the view tab
is a button that says "Apply to all folders" that will unghost after you
take the checkmark out. Make sure to click it to apply your change to all
folders.
6) Click the arrow next to Views, and then click Large Icons or if you
prefer extra large icons.

When Windows 7 offers a public RC1 very soon, download it and put it on a
partitionor a box.
Use the feedback icon to make a suggestion, and in addition go to
http://blogs.msdn.com/e7/
and when Steve Sinofsky makes a post, or someone on the shell team makes a
post, tell them that you think there should be the ability to get thumbnails
right on the explorer folder toolbar.

Unfortunatley this didn't resolve it. It
still just shows the 'file type image' instead of a thumbnail (which was
available in all os versions since W2K). I was told before (in that reply I
pasted) that this is due to have Vista 64bit, but I've heard the same from
those using 32bit. The solution was to use the 32bit explorer but I was
never able to get that to work.

I will definetley post that to the shell team, but it looks like they have
some other strategey here...which is unfortunate.

It works well on my Vista Home Premium 64-bit. "They don't
have some other startegey..."

yours actually showed the thumbnail preview artwork of .MIX
(PhotoDraw), .PSD (Photoshop), and .AI (Adobe Illustrator) files?!??!?!

Re: 32 bit windows explorer in Vista 64 bit version

What if trying to use 32bit file manager,
e.g.total commander or free FreeCommander ?

then 32bit extension should be available for you.
