Sidebar problem after installing new release of IE 8

It seems that I'm not the only one who had the Windows Sidebar no longer
working after installing the new release of Internet Explorer. After
spending a lot of time trying to find a solution, here is the way I have
solve the problem. Now the sidebar is just working fine. Enjoy!

    Answer

This behavior is observed if the XML registration is missing in the
system. To fix the problem, use the following steps:

    * Close Windows Sidebar. To do so, right-click on the Sidebar icon
in the Notification area and click Exit
    * Open an elevated Command Prompt window. To do so, click Start,
click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and
    then click Run as administrator.
    * In the Command Prompt window, type the following and press ENTER:

    regsvr32 msxml3.dll

    Similarly, run these commands:

    regsvr32 scrrun.dll

    regsvr32 jscript.dll

If the registration was successful, you'll see the message
DllRegisterServer in <filename> succeeded for each command executed.
Open Windows Sidebar (sidebar.exe) and check if the problem is resolved.

It worked. I have searched all around, finally find the solution.

I am having the same problems with the sidebar, it simply stopped working
after I installed de final IE8 release. The sidebar doesn´t open and an error
    message pops up.
I tried these propmt commads but, in all of them, I got error messages
    poping up.
Will microsoft fix that in a next update?

after getting into Command Prompt how do you get into Run as administrator???? I'm seeing C:\Users\Owner I was afraid to mess with my source files so i gave up.

I got my sidebar gadgets back by going in and uninstalling IE8..they came back when I restarted.

Who needs IE8 after all these hassles...where do I send the bill to Microsoft for all the time I've wasted on trying to get their programs to work???... this after spending hundreds of dollars to buy it in the first place.

You have to open the Command Prompt (cmd) with Admin rights.

Go to "All Programs | Accessories ", right-click on the item with the cmd-icon and from the context-menu select "Run as Administrator.

I found a solution that worked for me, in my two monitor setup: make sure the sidebar is displayed on monitor #1 (Primary) not #2

I have a two monitor nVidia MX 8600GTS-T2D256EZ-HD setup. For a long time I had my "Primary" display at the right, and my "Secondary" at the left - with taskbar, most desktop icons, and SIDEBAR set to display there (on #2 at left). On a hunch, I swapped cables and made my taskbar, most desktop icons, and SIDEBAR set to display on #1 "Primary" - and the IE8 sidebar funkiness went away. Multiple reboots, with or without Vista SP2 - consistently solved.

Well ... I take it back. After 3-4 days (no updates, no system changes) the darn funky sidebar gadget issue came back. There was definitely an improvement in swapping my monitors and making the sidebar appear on the "Primary", however, this has not completely solved it. Sorry for the wild goose chase.

Last week I e-mailed MS online support for IE8. Today this cam in my e-mail:

"Thank you for contacting Microsoft Product support. There is a know compatibility issue between Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Vista sidebar. Our engineers are currently working on a solution for this compatibility issue. I do apologize for any inconvenience."

So at least I know it's recognized and will be fixed.

I tried the suggested solution. All 3 registations were successful, but still the sidebar pix have a nasty white border and the clock has stopped. Do you have any further ideas?
