"The Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation"

As the title says, that is the message that I get every single time I try to uninstall pretty much anything. I am running Vista Premium which came with the laptop I was bought for christmas a few years ago. I am the only user on the computer and that means I am the administrator and I did no such thing. Can anyone suggest anything to help? Such as altering the policies or whatever.
    Help!
    Davstrife
    P.S Thanks!

Not neccesarily at all! You need to do Control panel-User Accounts and check
that your user IS an administrator.

So many options:if you are administrator

    1.Check you have this key

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\POLICIES\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\INSTALLER
if you find this key ->remove it + restart

    2.Try create another admin account

    Just open regedit.exe

Start>>Search and type regedit then in regedit open HKEY_LOCALE_MACHINE
hive (HKLM=HKEY_LOCALE_MACHINE) and check you have this key or not

You may not be aware but the forum you are posting to leaches off the MS
News server. So all of us who use the MS news server don't see what you see

I have tried and there nothing by that name and still I get the same message when I try to uninstall. Is there anything else which could be causing this annoying problem?
    Thanks!

    Try this

1.Disable UAC + restart and enable UAC again +restart
2.Try both methods to reset restrictions from this
    thread:http://www.vistax64.com/general-disc...tml#post854047
    3.Uninstall completly any protected software:non-system
    firewall,antivirus,antimalware

Hey there, despite your numerous suggestions I have no idea why it still is not working, I have removed my AVG Free Edition, Norton 360 and still nothing, I tried the disabling and enabling UAC that did nothing and neither did creating another account, I got the same answer there. Oh, and resetting the restrictions did not work either, I am at my wits end with this... I am considering rebooting my entire laptop but that would lose everything so it really is a last ditch resort, any other suggestions that might work?
    Thanks,

    Try this:
Find key *HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer* - make copy this key and next
    remove completly this key +restart

I think he is saying ' Find this key.....'
    Then copy that key.
    Then delete that key.
    Then reboot.

So when you have found your key in regedit select that key, right-click and 'Export'.
Choose ' Selected branch' in the dialog box, and give it a name - say , 'install.reg'.
Save it to your desktop. If you need to restore that key, right-click the reg file and Merge.
Now you can rename the key (instead of deleting).
Now reboot to effect the change.
