| \boot\bcd + 0x000000f error when starting up
The Windows Boot Manager complains that it cannot read the boot configuration data. File: \boot\BCD Status: 0x000000f I can get this fixed using the vista dvd repair option whics takes care of the problem in 5 minutes, but the problem reappears when updates are installed / uninstalled. The first computer is a Fujitsu-Siemens laptop and the other computer is a Macbook with vista as the only OS. |

I'm not sure how much of this applies to your MacBook. It should fix this problem on a pc. Startup Repair is also valuable in fixing significantly broken Vista as well as problems booting into Windows. 1) Try Startup Repair: How to Use Startup Repair: (Any of the links provide screen shots) 2) You can use the Vista DVD or F8 to the Options Menu to try the bootrec.exe tool switches: How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 Windows Vista no longer starts, and Startup Repair does not fix problem http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934540 The commands I use are: bootrec /Rebuild BCD bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /Fixboot They can either be used from a command prompt reached from the Vista DVD or you can F8 to the options menu and select Safe Mode with Command: A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP/and Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/ 3) You can F8 to the Options menu and try 3 Safe Modes to reach a system restore point, and you can also try Last Known Good Configuration. I recommend trying all 3 Safe Modes except with VGA because often one works when the others won't. You can use the Vista DVD or F8 to the Options Menu to try the bootrec.exe tool switches: How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 |

The problem is not the repairing, I can do that. But every time install or uninstall an windows update I get the same problem. 1. Windows update installation 2. Startup error Boot\BCD 3. Startup with vista dvd. repair using command line or automatic repair process 4. Windows starts ok 5. Next week a new windows update arrives and is installed successfully 6. Startup error boot\BCD 7. After repair it works again I installed Vista again by launching the setup from the OS, the setup initially failed but after that the problem was gone and hasn't appeared again. This worked on two computers. |

Did you ever find a solution to this recurring issue? I suspect updates are also causing this problem to recurr with a client's laptop. This error is still consistently happening everytime a windows update runs. I ran the vista setup again from the OS, the setup failed but the problem was fixed. So I still don't know what the cause of this problem was. |

From this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927391 I have done the third method cuz the first and the second method didn't work for me... When I tried the step No. 9; bcdedit -create {bootmgr} -d "Description" my Vista didn't pass the syntax cuz there was bootmgr, this mean the we must remove this bootmgr first. Could any body help me to overcome this problem.... |
