Lost the drive letter D for my recovery partition...

I'm sorry if this is a duplicate but I don't believe my last posting sent...

I lost my drive letter for my D recovery partition. It no longer shows in
Windows Explorer. When I go to Administrative Tools > Computer Management >
Disk Management I see the 10.6G used partition but with no letter. I tried
to assign a letter to it but I get an error message "The operation failed to
complete because the disk management console view is not up to date... to
refresh or restart the computer. I did but to no avail, I get the same
    message.

I believe this has something to do with the partition table as I tried to
load an older copy of Partition magic from a floppy. That's when I got the
error stating something about the partition table then the program failed to
load. Is there a way I can fix the partition table to see my D drive again
if this is the problem? Thanks so much! Lee Lord

If you had come here prior to doing what you did you would have been
informed that there is no version of Partition Magic that is compatible with
    Vista.

Did you allow PM to correct any errors that it said it found? If so - big
    mistake!

Two and 1/2 years ago I ran into the same problem on a clients computer. I
had to delete all the partitions from the drive and rebuild the drive from
scratch. To my knowledge the drive is still functional.

I agree with Richard except that the latest version of Partition Magic from
Symantec is compatible with Vista. You are probably going to have to use
the recovery disk you should have made or request one from the computer
    manufacturer.
I would not use any version of Partition Magic. I would use Terrabytes or
    Acronis products instead.

Yes I ended up using the recovery disks
which put everything back to normal including recreating my recovery D
    partition. Thanks again!

how do i know what my hd is? im running windows vista home premium would you know? cause im stuck there i'd appreciate your ans .thks

Re: Lost the drive letter D for my recovery partition...

Hey, guys! There IS A SOLUTION to the problem. I just went through it...
I used the goddamn Partition Magic too. Fixed the damned errors... It deleted my recovery partition.
Man, I was SCARED! And then I saw Your thread... I panicked! Tried a lot of different software - didn't help.

After Googling for awhile, I found a very nice tool, called TestDisk. I used it in one of the steps to recovery...

    Recovery Process:

    - What You'll need:
    +Acronis Disk Director Suite [newest]
+TestDisk [You will need the one for Windows. duh!]

    - Steps to RECOVERY:
    1. Install Acronis & TestDisk
    2. Run TestDisk. GO: Create A log File->[Select your HD]->Choose "Analyze"
    3. It will show you the list of partitions. The main, where Ur Vista is located & another one[HP_RECOVERY]. Press "Quick Search"[Enter button]
    4. It will ask if it's Vista partition[or smth similar]. press Y.
    5. You will see the list of partitions again. [in my case, the color was green. If it's red - something's wrong.]
    6. NOW you can edit the partition TYPES
    7. Highlight the deleted partition. Press LEFT-RIGHT arrows until the TYPE changes to "D" - DELETED
    8. Apply changes & restart computer.
    9. Run Acronis Disk Director Suite, Select "recover Partitions" [or "Acronis recovery Expert"]
    10. Follow the instructions in it. After It's done shut down ACRONIS, let it finish all the work & reboot.
    11. Voila! - Now Your partition is back! :) [At least in my case was...]

I hope it works for others too :)
