| Trying to run classic Defrag
I've read other posts about running classic defrag using CMD defrag a: -a -v as Administrator without luck. When I try to run it, a window flashes, and then instantly disappears. I've also tried creating a Quick Launch of defrag.exe, and also running that as Administrator, same result. I was running Vista defrag, then tried classic. When the problem resulted, I rebooted, but still same problem. Any ideas? I'm running Vista Home Premium oem on an HP Pavilion notebook. Thanks in advance for your help. |

Hi, Are you opening the Command window by right cliking on it's icon in the Accesories folder and selecting "Run as administrator"? -- Paul "SlicerRod" wrote: > I've read other posts about running classic defrag using CMD defrag > a: -a -v as Administrator > without luck. Thanks for the response. It's running, but I'd like to see the windows application running that shows the visual representation of the disk fragments like is available on XP. Yeah, another example of M$'s complete lack of response to customer needs. | Re: Trying to run classic Defrag
The 'visual' representation of the Windows Vista defragmenter running has been removed from Vista. If you want to 'see' what is happening you will need to install a third party defragmenter. The nearest third party defragmenter to that used by Windows XP is Diskeeper (which you will need to buy). My personal preference is Raxco PerfectDisk (again you need to buy this one). If you want a 'free' defragmenter you could use Auslogic disk defragmenter or a new one from the makers of CCleaner called 'defraggler' (www.defraggler.com) -- -- John Barnett MVP Windows XP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org Web: http://www.silversurfer-guide.com The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is".
