Lost document or file folder

When I try to save a document (any Office 2003 application) using
_save-as_, the pop-up window shows the document as saved. When I close
the document and go to my documents and drill down to the file I saved
the document in, it is not there. The only way I have been successful
in saving to a specified is to first save the document to the desk top
and then drag and drop to the correct folder. When I save via drag and
drop, then open the document and try save as again, it does not show up
in the save-as window. The same thing happens when I try to create a
new subfile in a specified file folder. This problem has only shown up
in the last few days. I have been using this laptop since Feb. and have
had no problems. I am using Vista Home Premimum 32bit with Office 2003.

There is no "My Documents" folder in Vista. You cannot save anything there.
What looks like a folder is a junction point that acts like a shortcut in
some ways. It's there so that programs saving to "My Documents" will find
it, and then put the document where it belongs in Vista. That is the
"Documents" folder. No "My" prefix. Take a look there, and begin to use the
Vista folders such as "Documents", "Pictures" etc. They are folders and you
can put things in them. The "My" versions are all junction points because
many older programs insist on hard wiring the name "My Whatever" into the
program. This allows them to work.

It's patently obvious that the OP was NOT talking about "My
Documents", but maybe you needed the typing excercise, huh?

Or couldn't you find anywhere else to show off your knowledge of
junction points and it just needed to get out before you burst?

The OP did say "my documents".
Office 2003 lists "My Documents", since it's not Vista-aware. Clicking on
that should open the Documents folder under the users login.
At least it does for me.

Your are correct, I misspoke. When I go to Documents to find a just
saved document or file, it is not there. When I save to the desktop and
drag and drop to a file located in Documnets, it is there. If I reopen
the saved document and save-as again, it does not show up in the save-as
window.

I wonder if you have used a registry cleaner recently. It sounds like the
kind of thing you get from them.

Have you tried a repair install of Vista, or the affected apps?
