To do that task in Vista, you learn to use Bcdedit and Bootrec

I still use boot.ini in Vista for XP and Linux boot entries, but this is
unlikely to be what you're after.
'bcdedit' is generally speaking the tool to use for boot entries
bcdedit /? (from an elevated command prompt)
eg current boot entries ....
bcdedit /enum

Download VistaBootPro (www.vistabootpro.org) and click on the 'manage OS
entries' tab. This is a far easier option than using BCDedit.

You don't. BOOT.INI does not exist in Vista. What, specifically, are
you trying to accomplish?

Since I have come to like the Vista Ultimate 64 OS over the XP 64 OS,
which I never boot into now, I want to get rid of the other boot options
and have it just go directly to the Vista Ultimate boot block. I suspect
that I should go to the other partitions one last time and uninstall the
OS in each case. Then I can reorganize the disk space, etc.

I strongly recommend that you download and install VistaBootPRO
from http://www.pro-networks.org. This utility can be installed to both
the Vista and WinXP operating systems, and provides a convenient means
of editing the boot process, as well as simplifying the removal of
either Vista boot process, should you tire of dual-booting.

OK, I have done the download, even made a donation. Now I will have to do
the install and learn the tool.
Thanks all for the information.
