| How do I fix a Vista WMI EventID 10 problem?
I am having frequent application crashes using my Vista 64 bit system and every day my error log shows entries such as this:- Log Name: Application Source: Microsoft-Windows-WMI Date: 21/09/2008 09:17:24 Event ID: 10 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Study Description: Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-WMI" Guid="{1edeee53-0afe-4609-b846-d8c0b2075b1f}" EventSourceName="WinMgmt" /> <EventID Qualifiers="49152">10</EventID> <Version>0</Version> <Level>2</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Opcode>0</Opcode> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2008-09-21T08:17:24.000Z" /> <EventData> <Data>//./root/CIMV2</Data> <Data>SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99</Data> <Data>0x80041003</Data> </EventData> </Event> This is becoming very irritating and the unreliability of my system is very poor. Can anyone please offer me a solution? |

You can either do a format of your system or try the following. Might or might not fix the issue. Code 10 error "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" 3) The easiest way to solve a error code 10 in Windows Vista is to follow the steps below to remove and reinstall all USB controllers. A. Click on Start B. Right Click on My Computer, click on Properties C.Click on the Hardware tab D. Click the Device Manager button. E. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers section. F. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time. G. Restart the computer, and allow the computer to reinstall the USB controllers. H. Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved. I have tried your suggestion but it does not resolve my problem. In these circumstances can you please explain why you believe this is a USB problem? I get this every boot up, never figured out why. Doesn't seem to cause any problems though. Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit did you get any help on this problem? I would be very interested.... Try this run *cmd.exe* with administrative previlliges (right click on it as admin if you use UAC) and type *winmgmt /resetrepository* sorry, my mail was too short, it seems... I just bought a brandnew PC with vista home premium and the system reboots spontanously at some random actions (It ALWAYs reboots when playing "SOLITAIR" after just about 1 minute!!!). The Event Viewer always displays Event Id 1O ( //./root/CIMV2 SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99 0x80041003 .... at the time of the crash reboots (don't know, if this is related...). I already tried to inactivate the ID 10 events (as recommended on the net), but this doesn't help fixing the real problem. When I start Solitair, the system invariably crashes and reboots. |

Thanks for the reference Peter. That article refers to USB devices failing to work in Windows XP and returning the message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". In my case I am running Vista 64 bit, do not get the message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" but instead get a Error Event ID 10 - I am afraid that this is not the same as a Code 10 message. I will continue my search for a solution but thank you for trying. |

properly -sometimes in this way you manage to fix this error but not always drivers for sound? Or if really no help find *.DMP files in *C:\Windows* or *C:\Windows\Minidump* and debug them - dubuged files can help you to diagnose these computer restarts see more: 'How to read the small memory dump files that Windows creates for debugging' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263) 'Debugging Tools for Windows - Overview' (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtoo...g/default.mspx) |

| Re: How do I fix a Vista WMI EventID 10 problem?
I have recently upgraded my PSU and not sure if i ended up mixing up the wires while hooking up my video card. But I got this down to where i can run my pc for a while without it shutting itself off. Mostly when i boot up games will it shut off then i will get it powered back up then check the event viewer and get that event 10. I tried reseting repository and even deleting it. and doing the cmd.exe but that they all pretty much say the programs are being used. I even tried this in safe mode. Hope I can resolve this without a system reinstall. Please help if anyone can thanks! |

Are you saying that before you replaced your PSU, you were having *none* of the problems you are currently having? That these problems started only and *very soon*or immediately after installing the power supply and reconnecting the video card that you already had been using in this system? If you answer yes to one or both questions above, why would the operating system be your _first suspect_ for your problem? Have you made sure of the wires you were "not sure" of mixing up? Was the PSU you replaced working ok and do you still have it? Is your system a branded system like HP, DELL, GATEWAY? How long is a while? Right now if it was me I would be thinking hardware, until that's proven not to be the case. |

Thank You, problem solved. I received this error from an installation of Microsoft Office 2007. error reporting suggested I download utility. To solve the error, this way was much simpler. |
