Front panel microphone and headphone doesn't work Win Vista

I am running Windows Vista on my computer and I have an onboard Realtek HD Audio ALC880 which is having some problems. The front panel headphone and microphone are not working in Windows Vista. I have the latest driver installed already but still it wont work. This same driver was working fine in Windows XP but it seems that Vista doesnt support this driver for Realtek ALC880? Any ideas?

Have you tried going ino audio setup and checked whether it is setp up or configured manually and has no auto detect feature, check from back to front and vice versa.

All you have to do is, just go into Control Panel > Sound > Recording and then here you have to select the input source that you will need. If there is nothing in the list of options that you are looking for then the hardware is not able to support the option. Also, I believe that there is no auto detect in any options.

Have you tried checking the 'Disable front panel jack detection' option:

    1. Double-click on the Realtek HD Audio manager system tray icon.
    2. Click on small folder icon.
    3. Check that the 'Disable front panel jack detection' tick box is unticked.
    4. Now insert the jack plug of either a microphone or headphones into the corresponding front panel socket of your computer.
    5. If you now see the message 'Information: A jack has been plugged in', then you do not need to change this setting as your system has a HDA compatible front panel.
    6. If you do not see this message, then click on the small folder icon again and tick the 'Disable front panel jack detection' check box.

More information can be found on this page.
