It sounds like you need the driver for the hard disk controller or to make a change in the BIOS concerning the hard drive. Have you asked HP for assistance? All new laptops/notebook PC come with a SATA hard drives which XP does not look for and can't recognize. Check in CMOS if there is a setting to disable SATA. He can supply the driver (F6 during early text phase in XP and Load Drivers in Vista). He doesn't have to slipstream the driver although that is sometimes a useful way to do it. Folks, This problem is appearing more and more often now that SATA is becoming the standard and more users are refusing to switch to Vista and are installing XP on their new PC's. There is a well documented solution on this site which explains two ways to get around it: http://www.proposedsolution.com/solutions/ps0019.php Hope this helps ~Rosco~ |
