    laptop keyboard types incorrect character

I have a laptop with Windows Vista installed on it. Recently the keyboard of this laptop has started to act weird. When I press some of the keys on the keyboard then it will display incorrect character on the monitor as well as in any text document. When I press the below single letters, check what it gives the output:
pressing l give the character 3
pressing j give the character 1
pressing k give the character 2
pressing u give the character 4

What should i do to fix this keyboard problems that are happening in the laptop.

I think that you are using the Hotkey combination in your laptop, which is why when you press any alphabetical keys on your keyboard, then it types or gives our numerical numbers. And you can read from the user manual of laptop incase if you cannot remember the proper combinations that are used for same. Once you find it then it will be automatically restored to the alpha mode and you wont be facing this problem again. If i recollect properly, then you will have to press the combination of the "Fn" key and "Num lock" keys simultaneously, let me know if this solves the issue.

Re: laptop keyboard types incorrect character

You could try the following suggestions and see if it works for you:

    1. First of all you have to click on Start and then Control Panel
    2. After that if you are in Classic View, click on Control Panel Home which should be at the top left corner)
    3. Now, you have to open Clock, Language, and Region
    4. Next, you should click on Regional and Language Options.
    5. After that you have to click the Keyboards and Languages tab and then click Change keyboards.
    6. Here you will have to get under Installed services, click Add.
    7. After that you will come accross the Add Input Language dialog box, select the keyboard layout you would like to add from the list available and click OK. The keyboard layout you added will be included in the list. To set the new layout as your default, select it from the list. Click OK to save your changes
    8. Lastly, You can just switch between different input languages (keyboard languages) by clicking on the Language Bar button or by pressing the Alt + Shift keys
