| Error 0x000003eb connecting to shared printer on a different domai
Hello, I'm getting an error 0x000003eb when trying to connect to a printer that is connected and shared on a computer that is located on a different domain. My laptop is part of a domain also, just not the domain that has the printer. The printer is on a Windows XP Professional workstation. It's a HP LaserJet 4050. My laptop is Windows Vista Ultimate with every single patch installed. Exact error message is: Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000003eb). Any help would be appreciated... I've tried all the usual things that I could think of, even messing with the UAC. Bradley |

| Re: Error 0x000003eb connecting to shared printer on a different domai Hi Bradley, try this. Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer. Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port. The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. Click Next. A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the \\computer name\printer name good luck. -- Steve Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

Bradley, You say, "My laptop is part of a domain also, just not the domain that has the printer." My logic is such that it seems you must be part of that domain on which the printer resides in order to connect to it. Try contacting that domain administrator to ask about joining that domain and connecting to that shared printer. Just my way of looking at it. -- freddy "Bradley" wrote: > Thanks Steve for the quick response.. Didnt' work though. I get the following > error: > > Unable to install printer. Hi Freddy, I understand your logic as to having to be in the same domain. But it is very common for consultants to walk into organizations that are on a different domain. The way you get around this is the administrator sets you up with a account on their domain. That account is used to access the resources on their domain. Being a consultant I walk into a few different offices every day and it would not be feasible for me constantly switch domains. My profile, etc would be all screwed up. Please, someone with extreme knoweldge of this issue. Help me.. Thanks, Bradley "freddy" wrote: > Bradley, > > You say, "My laptop is part of a domain also, just not the domain that has > the printer." > > My logic is such that it seems you must be part of that domain on which the > printer resides in order to connect to it. Bradley, You don't really want to hack into someone's domain, do you? That wouldn't be very nice. lol -- freddy "Bradley" wrote: > Hello, > > I'm getting an error 0x000003eb when trying to connect to a printer that is > connected and shared on a computer that is located on a different domain. > My laptop is part of a domain also, just not the domain that has the printer. > > The printer is on a Windows XP Professional workstation.
