| Still HP C3180 problems
This comes from my previous post in this. I followed the two adviced recieved but I still cannot install the driver for the HP Photosmart C3180. This is what I did in my last try 1) Uninstalled by all possible means every HP driver and software previously installed 2) Tried to insall "HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers" from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...s=2093&lang=en Following the instruccions which is to keep the USB cable unplugged and the printer off until the installer says otherwise. This doesn't pass the driver insallation part. 3) Without un-installing anything from the fail step (2), tried to install: "HP Photosmart Basic Print and Scan Driver" from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...s=2093&lang=en With the USB cable unplug all the time. This installer finishes saying that is all ready to be used. But no.. when I plug the USB cable and turn the printer on, the Vista Device Manager says that new hardware was found and starts the normal process only to fail in the end saying that it couldn't find any driver. Any ideas? Fernando, Some folks have had good fortune in resolving problems such as you have by deleting the INFCACHE.1 file. It's located at C:\Windows\inf (scroll down to the file). It's OK to delete the file even when it has nothing to do with the problem. -- freddy "Fernando Cacciola" wrote: > This comes from my previous post in this. > > I followed the two adviced recieved but I still cannot install the driver > for the HP Photosmart C3180. > > This is what I did in my last try > > 1) Uninstalled by all possible means every HP driver and software previously > installed > > 2) Tried to insall > > "HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers" > > from > > http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...s=2093&lang=en > > Following the instruccions which is to keep the USB cable unplugged and the > printer off until the installer says otherwise. > > This doesn't pass the driver insallation part. > > 3) Without un-installing anything from the fail step (2), tried to install: > > "HP Photosmart Basic Print and Scan Driver" > > from > > http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...s=2093&lang=en > > With the USB cable unplug all the time. > > This installer finishes saying that is all ready to be used. > > But no.. when I plug the USB cable and turn the printer on, the Vista Device > Manager says that new hardware was found and starts the normal process only > to fail in the end saying that it couldn't find any driver. > > > Any ideas? After deleting that file, I just turned on the printer an let the device manager find the driver, which this time worked. Not only that.. the HP installer resumed from the point it failed before, so I now have all the printer and scanner stuff in place. Thank you very much! Fernando |

Fernando, Removing that file sometimes works, but sometimes not. I've added that fact to my long list of things I know but don't understand. I'm glad it worked for you. -- freddy "Fernando Cacciola" wrote: > freddy wrote: > > Fernando, > > > > Some folks have had good fortune in resolving problems such as you > > have by deleting the INFCACHE.1 file. > > !!!!!!!VOILA!!!!!!!! > > That fixed it! > > After deleting that file, I just turned on the printer an let the device > manager find the driver, which this time worked. > > Not only that.. the HP installer resumed from the point it failed before, so > I now have all the printer and scanner stuff in place. > > Thank you very much! > > Fernando > > |

I know deleting that file has resolved USB detection problems in quite a few instances, however, Darrell Gorter from MS posted a reply to one of these threads cautioning against deleting that file. He said it can have other effects. Unfortunately he never replied to my request for more info on what problems deleting InfCache.1 can have. I have not been recommending that solution for now because of his (uncertain) response. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |

Rock, Yeah, I'd like to know what problems could be in store, too. I wonder why he Didn't respond. Maybe he's having problems finding the answer. No one who has benefited from removing that file has posted back with an issue. That fixed my problem too - doesn't look like any adverse effects either. Thanks so much!!
