Acer Orbicam

I have a newly purchased Acer Aspire 5100 laptop that has got a built in orbicam which is working properly in Windows XP. But later on when I upgraded to Windows Vista it seems to be not working. I have already tried installing all the upgraded drivers and programs from the Acer site that it is not of any use. Is there anyone who has got this cam working on Vista. Thanks for any input.

I think that Acer Orbicam in your laptop is broken. Since i have got the same laptop which came with Windows Vista preinstalled, i manually installed the cam drivers and it worked without any problems. Even with the built in Microsoft USB 2.0 camera driver it is getting listed and working properly. You should test the camera either by installing Skype or Windows Live Messenger which is working on my end. Perhaps give a ring to the Acer support and ask them for a replacement if it is not at all working for you.

Yes, you should raise a ticket at the acer support website and ask them whether any patches are available for this camera problem. Since it is working fine with the Messenger and Skype, i think that it might be a driver problem that needs to be fixed. Another thing you can do is, to delete or remove all the files from your "pictures" directory and see if the Orbicam works now.
