Boston Digital BA735 Speakers

I was wondering if anyone out there knew how to make it to
where these speakers work on a new HP desktop. It's running Windows Vista
Home Premium and has a RealTek sound card. I've looked all over, downloaded
the driver, and it still is not coming up. Please help!

Try a "Cobra" soundcard
It works with Vista

They are not expensive; Australian $25

Did you contact Boston for further assistance? I have a Gateway Notebook with
Vista and having same problems. Gateway Tech told me to contact Boston. Our
speakers only work with a digital soundcard and thus I am waiting for
Boston's response.

The problem is I don't have any money to buy anything else for it, I need to
find a way to fix it or patch it in or something.

I have the same speakers and I'm having the same problem - trying to use them with my Gateway laptop running XP. My sound card is SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC. It sounds like we need to get a sound card that supports digital?

an easier option is to add an analog input jack to the Digital BA735.

there were two versions of the Digital BA735 made - some had an analog
in, some did not. I have both and they share the same PC board.

simply solder a 3.5mm stereo PC mount jack to the board in the existing
locations, drill out a hole for the jack in next to the digital input
jack, and you have a working system again that isn't dependent on a
specific sound card.

see for yourself. there are four phillips screws that hold the
subwoofer case together. remove them and open it up. then remove the
two screws on the control face, pull off the sub control knob, and
remove the nut holding that potentiometer on. then the board slides out
and you can see where the analog input lies on the board - and the pin
spacing.

Re: Boston Digital BA735 Speakers

i am posting some high resolution pictures of the inside of my ba735 that has only digital input.

some questions...do i have to add the resistors and capacitors? could i just cut of the end of a pair of headphones and solder in the left and right to where they are supposed to go (that is another question) and the ground to somewhere appropriate?

would the analog not sound as good as the digital? i am amazed at how good the digital sounds...

could i hook up the ba735 in my car? i have a jvc kd-s5050 receiver. it has one line out on the back of it (a red and white pair of rca plugs). I do not know if it is variable or if it is for a certain frequency or if its would be appropriate for a subwoofer, etc...). Could i add the ba 735 to my car's system by connecting the line out from my receiver to the analog in on the ba735 (assuming i can pull of the mod)? what about powering the ba735 from my wiring harness in my car. could i just cut off the end of a power adapter, keep it plugged into the ba735 then splice in the positive to my car's ignition/accesory line and the negative to my harness's ground line. that brings up the issue which wires on the power adapter cord goes to the positive (ignition/accesory) wire on my car's receivers wiring harness and which wire is ground. is the tip positive for the ba735? i don't even think I have the original power adapter but i have a few that work. what does it mean on an adapter when one side of the cord has a dotted line and one is mostly just black (with maybe a bit of text)? is the dotted line side the positive side? or is the dotted line side the polarity of the tip, which may be positive or negative depending on the indication on the cord? thanks for any help and input peace.

last question, is there a way to change something like the analog line out on my jvc car receiver to a digital output so that i could utilize the digital input on the ba735?

that link also has a schematic for the ic chip in my car's receivers and my car's receivers docs

ps, i hacked my jvc receiver to add a line in for my ipod by soldering the positive and negative and ground wires from cuttoff headphone cord to 16 and 17 and 2 terminals/things on the phillips tea6320

any suggestions on how to solder things in/mod things with this reciever so that i can make it better (like, i understand its more desirable to have subwoofer line out instead of a rear speaker line out only, and i don't even know if these are fixed or variable line out, ie, will my receiver control the volume on the amp and speakers i am plugging into the line out from my receiver?)

oh last thing. on the ba735 board where the analog in goes is see silver squares and am trying to figure out which ones to solder the + and - of the headphone's cords to so i can plug in an ipod. i think it is the center ones from reading the pin bending that went on in previous posts, but i don't know if it is the two in the front, closest to the inputes or the two in the back? can anyone explain what each pinhole is for?
thanks, also, could i use a .01uf ceramic disk capacitor 500wvdc instead of the ones mentioned?

How can I figure out which pins to use to install a stereo jack in my AB 735 speakers. could some explain to me which ones I need to use.

I am trying to add a stereo jack to my Boston AB735 speakers, But I am having trouble seeing which contacts to solder to. Is there any way you could explain to me which to use. I'm not much on electronics so be warned it will be like trying to explain it to a kid!
