Vista does not recognize any removable USB drive

I am using Vista and it failed to detect any usb drive connected to the system. I am using a external hard drive for data backup. Now the issue is that when I try to connect it in Vista, it is not detected. There is nothing on the screen. On the same hand the system fails to read my usb and camera. It was detected in XP.

Update the usb driver package for Vista. Also you can try visiting the official website of your pen drive and camera and download Vista compatible drivers. In terms of drivers XP is best and it collects all from Windows Update. There are certain usb drivers package that you can download and install it on your system.
