    Driver for Cd/DVD-RW drive not working

    I have Windows Vista on my computer and all of a sudden the CD/DVD drive that am using is not working anymore. When i click on the drive, then it gives me an error message that says " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". Is there anyone who can give some solutions for this issue.

    Have you tried going into Device Manager and then removing or deleting the drive or the device from their. After that restart the pc and then check if Windows Vista is able to recognize the drive or not. There is also a solution for USB drivers which might work for you, incase if the above doesnt help. Go to the path C:\windows\inf\INFCACHE.1 and delete it because it could be corrupt. But for deleting the same you will have to get the file permissions to give full control to the User acount and only then you will be able to delete it.

    Try to delete either the upper filter or lower filter or both from the registry editor in your pc and see if that works, for same follow the below method:

    • Click Start and then click All Programs.
    • Click Accessories, and then click Run.
    • Type regedit, and then click OK.
      If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
    • In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    • In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
    • On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    • When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    • In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
    • On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    • When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    • Exit Registry Editor.
    • Restart the computer.
