Driver for Cd/DVD-RW drive not working

I think that your lucky to only have had it happen two days before you got
it fixed. My DVD drive has been "missing" since October, and still doesnt
work today.


Also... I found a temporary fix for when the CD\DVD drive doesnt start up,
and isn't listed in My Computer.
You type in regedit in the search box.
Open up registry editor, and find this entry. Once you click on the key, you
should see a list of names. What you need to do is find the Upper Filters or
Lower Filters. You need to delete either one of them but before you do export
a file so you can be sure that you wont mess up the registry. Once the filter
is deleted, restart your computer and your cd drive will work again. This is
only a temp. fix, and I know its really frustrating if it happens again. I am
going to get an entirely new cd drive so I don't need to ever deal with this
again. Good luck to everyone with this problem.

I've got Vista Home Premium 32 Bit on a HP laptop
I don't know what triggered the CD/DVD to stop working
I followed the link 'You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD
drive, or you receive an error message after you remove a CD recording
program or a DVD recording program in Windows XP: "error code
31"' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/)
However the Downloaded Guided Help did not work at all.
Therefore I carried out the manual deletion of the UpperFilters and the
LowerFilters
using the Registry Editor.
Following the exact instructions was quick and easy and worked!
