Zoom Voice Modem - no audio

I have a Zoom 3025C Voice Modem and some telephone answering software. When a
call comes in, the modem answers the line but when the message is playing to
the caller, there is no audio (i.e. the caller hears no message). I have
tried a couple of answering machine programs but they all have the same
problem. Called ID works fine but just no sound for the outgoing message over
the modem.
Anyone else seen this problem in Vista? It all worked fine in XP and I also
tried setting the program for XP compatability mode but still have the audio
problem.

Same exact problem with Conexant D850 56K v.92 DFVc Modem.
No outgoing greeting but can record incoming message.

Stuart... I ran across a Vista driver for your Zoom modem.

http://voicent.com/kb/index.php/supp...icrosoft-vista

Please post back and let me know if this fixes your outgoing greeting
(silence) problem. If it does I will search the world for this modem.

Re: Zoom Voice Modem - no audio

sorry forgot to reply. The new drivers did not fix the problem. I see the
same problem with several different telephone answering programs.

Thanks anyway.

Vista handles audio differently than XP or its predecessors. Unless
Zoom comes up with a fix, don't expect the audio features of the modem
to work as they did in those systems.

Re: Zoom Voice Modem - no audio

Actually, I developed my own telephone answering application for XP and when
I recompiled for Vista the audio problem showed up. Do you have any pointers
about what changed in Vista for TAPI so I can fix my application? Or would it
still be a driver problem that Zoom or Conexant has to fix?

Stuart, if you ever learn anything about this problem please post back. I
have exactly the same symptoms as you do with my answering machine software.

One Win32 telephony product that does work with the Zoom 3025C and
Voicent's Vista driver is Communicate!. At least it works for me. Other
products have the same problem indicated by others - no outgoing
message.

Thanks for the tip. I'm still looking for a solution.
When you installed this software in Vista did the answering machine
functions work immediately? Did you have to patch? Did it require the Zoom
Vista driver before functions worked? Did you at first have the no outgoing
greeting problem?

Worked first time. I had installed Voicent's Vista driver.

Re: Zoom Voice Modem - no audio

Have you gone into Control Panel>Sounds and checked to see if the voice modem is
listed there? (Make sure to right click the windows and select Show Disabled
Devices and Show Disconnected Devices.)

Re: Zoom Voice Modem - no audio

No the modem is not listed. Only thing there is "Speakers / Headphones". In
Vista device manager under "Sound, video and game controllers" I do have
"Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device" listed. It's properties indicate the
device is working properly.

I dual boot and under "XP / Sounds and Audio Devices Properties / Hardware"
I have "Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Driver" listed. Under its properties
"Modem Wave Driver" is listed. The modem works fine in XP.

I can't find a reference to "Modem Wave Driver" anywhere in Vista. I thought
that in the past I had found that somewhere but can't find it now.

However (in Vista) my answering machine software is able to record incoming
messages but will not send audio (greeting) out through the modem. I have
researched this extensively in Feb / March but sort of gave up and just boot
to XP to use this software. I would like to find a solution. I would buy a
new modem if I knew of a model that would work with Vista.

Re: Zoom Voice Modem - no audio

Do you have XP installation disks?
Tried running the software in XP compatibility mode?
Any Vista drivers from Zoom's site?
Anything from Window's Update?
Tried uninstalling the Audio Driver in Device Manager, rebooting and letting
Vista reinstall the driver?
