Need help to install driver for a PCI device

Sponsored Links
Hi
In our system we have 8 PCI devices of the same vendor id and device id .
The driver is the same .
when the system is running , few boards among the 8 become idle / not responding . The device responds again only if i reinstall the driver . I dont know this is a hardware / software issue . But my work around is to reinstall the driver for that particluar device instance .
Is it possible to install using devcon . If i use the vendor id and device id for installing , then the reinstallation happens to all 8 boards . This is NOT what i want . How do i install driver for a particular board . I am using windows 7 . using device manager i find the instance path (hope this is the instance id in window 7) . but the command fails .

E:\Rexlin\Tools>devcon update E:\Rexlin\myinf.inf "PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2382&SUBSYS_212E17AA&REV_00\4&398A18D&0&00E0"
Updating drivers for PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2382&SUBSYS_212E17AA&REV_00\4&398A18D&0&00
E0 from E:\Rexlin\myinf.inf
devcon failed.

I appreciate your help .
Please if any one have any info about this please post it to me ..

THanks
Rexlin

If you get an error message such as the "devcon failed" then all you have to do is look at this path - C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log, to get a detailed information about the error. You will see some lines that will begin with either single exclamation point (!) or maybe with 3 exclamation point (!!!). Also devcon.exe should be run in the elevated mode, so that it can install properly.
