Hp Deskjet 5550 Not Working

I have a Hp Deskjet 5550 printer which was working great on Windows XP. After I installed Vista on XP, my printer started actiing weird. Vista is able to recognize the printer when it is plugged in but when i try to print something it gives an printing error messsage. I wonder if the printer is detectable then why cant it print any pages. Please help

Have you tried installing the windows xp driver of Hp Deskjet 5550 on vista in compatablity mode? To install it in compatablity mode, right click on the exe file and then click on Properties, you will see a compatablity tab on the tab, simple click on it and then from the given list tick mark xp and then click ok and let the driver get installed. After the installation is completed then try to print from the printer.

Well, it seems to me that the Hp Deskjet 5550 is not supported in Windows Vista. You need Windows XP for this printer and therefore I would suggest that you do a dual boot of XP and Vista operating system. Although this thread is 2 years old, I had this same problem on my windows 7 OS. It turns out I didn't have permission to print with my user. The thing is, the OS does not give you the option of running a doc or pdf file as administrator. From here you either:

- lower your UAC settings (although for the careless user, this makes the computer vulnerable to malware attacks), or

- open your program as administrator and then open the file you want to print.
