USB Hub stopped working

My laptop froze during a shutdown process and I was forced to turn it off by holding the power button down. Since then my USB hub seems to have stopped working; anything plugged into it doesn't even turn up on the computer even though all the lights on them are on (indicating they are receiving power at the very least). How can I fix this?

Do other USB devices work when plugged in directly to the USB ports on your
computer (check all ports)? Does the USB hub work on any other computers?

The USB devices all work when plugged in directly, yes; I shall have to wait a while before being able to try the hub on another PC. Is there anything else I can try/check in the mean time?

Looks like the hub is the problem. Do you normally have more than one
device connected to it? If so, does it work with only one device at a
time?

No; even with only one device plugged in it doesn't work at all.

If there are no special drivers for the thing for you to try and
reload, it's time for a new hub.

Completely agree. Sounds like the hub is fried. Since they're relatively
cheap, Matuku should just replace it.

Re: USB Hub stopped working

*sigh* This is the second one of these that Vista has fried by freezing on it; maybe I'll try a different brand this time.

Software (Vista) doesn't damage hardware. Your USB connections on the
motherboard are probably flaky and causing a power surge on the USB ports.
The freezing is also indicative of other hardware issues. Your machine
could be overheating, the RAM could be bad, the power supply could be
failing, the motherboard could be iffy.

If the machine is still under warranty, exercise that warranty and get it
repaired/replaced by the OEM.

I've been using the same Belkin powered 4-port hub for 7 years now.

POWERED hub. Not as convenient for a laptop, but more robust.
