| USB ports stopped working after Windows updates
After installing 2 updates the USB ports on my docking station stopped working (they still work on the PC). The updates were: 1) Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB960353) and 2) Cypress - Other hardware - HX2LP kit (3.03.0000.2). I have tried system restore but it failed - said it didn't restore. (this always happens - any idea why?) The Cypress update does not show up on Programs & Features, so I am unable to uninstall it. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Try removing the newly installed updates. Also, try updating the chipset driver. I can't remove the newly installed Cypress update (the one causing the problem) because it doesn't appear on the list of installed software. Any ideas how I can remove it? The ports on my Dell docking station died during the update. Swapped with another dock and all is working. I wonder if that update changed the firmware on the dock. Will have to test the old dock when I get a chance. |

| RE: USB ports stopped working after Windows updates
I just discovered the same problem. I selected the Cypress update and all of the external USB ports died. I can't find the Cypress - Other hardware - HX2LP Kit (3.03.0000.2) software installed such that I can execute a removal. So, I found the drivers in the registry and then I also went into the device manager and found the HX2LP entries under the USB controllers. I decided to remove the HX2LP devices and also specified removal of the drivers. I'm about to reboot and see if this solves my problem. If not then I'll clone the registry and delicately cut out the HX2LP or Cypress entries. I'll post my status after the reboot. |

| Re: USB ports stopped working after Windows updates
I had a similar problem after this update in that my fingerprint reader stopped working; I use it for so many websites now that it was a pain. I tried looking for the device/driver to rollback but couldnt find it. Looking for a solution I found people on this site having problems with their USBs so I went back to look at the USB drivers and there it was, rolled it back and alls well. (Not sure if I had USB probs as well but wasnt gonna waste more time proving the point). So to recap, what solved my problem was: Start > Control Panel > Device Manager > USB controllers You should see the 'HX2LP' driver listed there: Rclick > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver Voila. Well it worked for me. It looks like it rolled back to a non-specific USB device but it might have just removed it, (not sure how many were there before I hit the button). Hope this helps, cheers. |

| Re: USB ports stopped working after Windows updates I had the same problem, but found on another post with the solution. Go to the device manager and under the USB controllers, right click -> properties -> rollback the USB driver for 'HX2LP' and it all comes back to life. And there I was about to throw away my HP docking station and buy a new one!!!! -- petercor |

I have the same problem with the HX2LP Kit USB drivers but, during the process of finding this was the problem, I had deleted all USB drivers and let them resense so I have no Rollback option. How do I get back to a generic USB Hub driver from here? |

Hi, there: Frankly speaking, I had no choice for this problem. I tried to search every possible solution for this online. Eventually I talked to HP support, so I decided to recover my laptop. 1) backup all you need, and recover it from manufacturing setting. It took me around 5 hours to get this job done. it was not as painful as I thought. 2) reset window updates options (only accept direct updates from Windows). this is my Exodus story. |

Eureka!! I solved it - very simply. In fact so simply that I thought I had done this before. 1. Go to Control Panel-System-Drivers-USB devices 2. I had 2 HX2LP drivers because I had 2 hubs connected. 3. Right click on one and click uninstall - check the uninstall software and confirm. 4. Uninstall the other one. This time no option to uninstall software 5. Restart and let the devices sense - Hey presto - it works again. |
