vista 64 bit blu-ray driver

I am running Windows Vista 64 bit OS on my desktop. Recently bought a sony blu-ray rom drive. I stuck during the installation because the software disk I got with the drive doesn’t contain any drivers for 64bit operating system. I called them and asked for the same and reply they said I need to pay more $100 for the same. Damn, this is exactly the cost of the blu-ray drive.

Can you guys please tell me anyplace where I can get 64bit drivers for Free ?

I don’t think there Sony’s drivers are available anywhere for free for this device. I am too searching for the same since last 2 months. Anyways, just as a suggestion, you should install it as it is without drivers. The only drawback for the same is you won’t be able to play Blu-Ray movies unless and until you will pay $100 to upgrade the software and 64bit drivers But it will work as the data drive without any problems.

Thanks for the help and suggestions NavinS but it sounds very irritating that I need to pay $100 to play Blu-ray on Microsoft’s own media Center and also the payment I have to make is for a third party software. Are SONY and Microsoft insane? I mean I have just wasted my money for a drive I would have better bought a player instead, isn’t it ?

Yeah, that’s really irritating. BTW I heard somewhere that Windows Vista Service pack 2 will come with Blu-Ray support? Is that correct?

Well dude what you heard is partly correct. Vista SP2 only adds support to burn blu-ray data discs and not for playing blu-ray discs.
