Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 stops responding

Hi all,

After switching users or logging off my mouse (Microsoft Wireless
Optical Mouse 2000) simply does not respond. The only way to recover
is by unplugging the receiver's USB cable and re-inserting it again.

I did all the steps described in this article (http://
support.microsoft.com/kb/321122/en-us) but it didn't help. I also
installed the IntelliPoint software but again no luck.

Any ideas why this is happening?

I am using it on an HP Pavillion dv6720 laptop with Windows Vista Home
Premium if that helps.

Best,
Michael

Re: Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 stops responding

I have many unresolved cases with HP Tech Support regarding this mouse issue
when SWITCHING users. Originally, my HP Pavilion dv9700 notebook shipped
with an HP Bluetooth mouse. After more than a dozen calls and replacement
of the mouse with a second HP Bluetooth mouse, I gave up and returned the
second mouse. They simply refused to acknowledge the problem but they did
refund my money for the mice.

I tried using an older Memorex wired mouse but it, too, had the same issues.
I bought a new Dynex Wired Mouse (DX-WMSE) and it also dies every time I
switch users. Sometimes, it dies when I log off Windows.

HP seems to attribute the reason for the problem to whatever is at the top
of the head of the Tech Support person one talks to:
1. the Bluetooth drivers
2. the mouse drivers
3. the fact that my notebook runs on a 64 bit version of Windows Vista
4. an elephant might have stepped on it

I was really frustrated with this because I preferred using a Bluetooth
wireless mouse but having to uninstall the Bluetooth driver, reboot, and
reinstall the Bluetooth driver for the mouse was just too torturous.

Life is just too short to waste any more time on it. I now "unplug and
plug" through sheer "muscle memory". My hands are just programmed to unplug
the mouse and re-plug it every time I switch users.
