New hard drive not showing up!!!

I had recently purchased a new hard drive for my pc and this computer is running on Windows Vista. I connected it with the power cable and the Sata cable and when I checked in Device Manager it is listed there. But the same hard drive is not showing up in My Computer and Windows Explorer as an extra hard drive. Do I need to format the hard drive or something, can anyone please help me out?

Have you checked if the new drive that you have connected has got a drive letter assigned to it? Actually, in device manager you will be only able to create a new simple volume that formats it for you. If you dont know how to do this then follow the below steps:
    1. First of all you have to right click on my computer and then select manage and then choose disk management
    2. After that here you will be able to see the new drive, just maximize the same disk management size to view it properly.
    3. Now, you have to right click the new hard drive and select the New Simple Volume.
