| Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000 Cradle Problems
I have a Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000 which recharges on a cradle. Actually have 2 which or having this problem. When placed on cradle for charging it will blink 7 times and then go to a fast blinking red light. According to Microsoft's Web site this is a charging problem (battery, etc.). These are brand new rechargeable batteries and I have tried different ones same problem. I have tried both cradles, plugged the cord in different places, and tried everything I can possibly do. Have checked the web, and it seems other people are having these cradle problems. Any ideas.. PS: Remember these are bluetooth devices and they work just fine, but will not charge on the cradle, but you can manually charge these batteries... |

I have found that if I left click the mouse once or twice when it is in the cradle and flashing Red that it will stop and recharge normally. |

Nope, that doesnt work either.. I put mine in the cradle last night and sure enough it was blinking red this morning I right and left clicked the mouse while still in the cradle a couple of times and the red blinking stopped. |

I found this thread looking for answers for the same problem. The above solution didn't work for me either, so in an atempt to get some charge so I could work I kept picking the mouse up from the cradle each time it started flashing red, on about the 4th or 5th try it never started flashing red. I think the battery supply was so depleted it couldn't get a good start for a charge. I will see if this works later in the day but I must get back to work. |

I actually did the clicking things and it worked. I think the power switch should be on ON position. Try it and let me know I have recently had this probelm after my son start playing with my mouse. I tried replacing the battery but that resulted in the same problem of the red light flashing after a minute or so. I checked the drivers on the keyboard the charger and the mouse and they were not changed. So I decided to re-connect my mouse and keyboard. This seems to have stopped the problem where the mouse would charge for a minute or so and then start to blink red. That was what I thought was the problem with my mouse. So I rotated it in the battery slot, I tried removing it and rubbing the terminals, I tried replacing it with a different battery to no avail. In the end I just re-connected the wireless connection by resetting the wireless bluetooth connection using the wizard. The problem has now disappered. |

The problem with the red light appears to be due to a unchangeable battery or to the battery not making a good connection within the mouse itself and therefore will not charge. One user has reported that just rolling the battery in the mouse around that it apparently made a better connection and the red light went away. |

| Re: Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000 Cradle Problems
My problem i faced was with the laser mouse 7000. it has only a single NiMH AAA. Every time i would go to charge it, after 10-30 seconds it would start blinking red. I eventually used it to the point of needing a critical charge and still had this problem. Working with NiMH high cap batteries in the past gave me a simple idea, do a high amp discharge on the battery for a short time. (connect a wire to each electrode or use a resistor) This fixed my problem (I had tried the checking the battery contacts, etc). I imagine what the problem was is known as a false peak where the battery when applied current to charge false peaks for a short period of time before or during the charge. Cheap chargers cannot handle this and a possible solution can be to (near) fully discharge the battery to level out its voltage. **Do not leave it to discharge TOO long, you can reverse the polarity of the cell** |

| Re: Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000 Cradle Problems
I think this is the answer, 8000 or 7000 model, I believe they use the same charging circuit.. The problem is that the battery falls below the chargers ability to recognise the cell. The charger starts charging and then fails because it thinks the battery is either not there or too flat to see it. There can be 2 issues here, the battery terminals are dirty or the battery has become too flat. Solution - wiggle everything and wipe everything cleaning all terminals including the battery. For very flat batteries, switch the mouse to OFF and start charging, it will probably turn red and flash, reset the mouse into the cradle and start charging again, this may happen 2,3 maybe 20 times.. Eventually the light will remain slowly flashing green and charge. It surprises me that such a simple totally avoidable issue in development from microsoft has slipped through. |

I have this problem and solved it. I took and emery board ( nailfile) and used it to lightly roughen both ends of the battery. Dropped it in the cradle and away it went!!! I think that over time the surfaces develop a film the interfers with the charging cycle. I hope ot works for others. |

i read this solution from other website...the link is This person had taught me put a piece of paper to press on the battery, but i am not sure if this is working. For further info. look into the website. |

| Re: Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000 Cradle Problems
I just fixed two of my 8000 laser mice (mouses?). It was a two step process 1/ Shave off a little of the case around the positive (pointy) end of the battery to effectively extend the knob onto the matching contact in the mouse 2/ Run sticky tape laterally around the battery at the positive end to force the metallic switch in the mouse down a little further. I ran the tape around about 6 times. I suspect that the batteries Microsoft used when setting up these mice were a slightly larger diameter with a longer protruding positive terminal |
