Camcorder not recognized through IEEE 1394

I have bought a Sony camcorder and am trying to connect it to my computer and I have checked that both have the firewire ports. Now the issue here is that, my pc is not able to detect the camcorder when it is plugged in the port. I have also tried to use the Windows Movie Maker application as the capturing program but still it wont detect. I also checked in Device Manager but nothing was listed there. Any ideas?

Have you turned on the camcorder adn then did you choose the camcorder's VTR mode and then checked if it is getting detected in the computer? Try to follow the below workaround and see if it works for you:

    1. Click Start and then type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
    2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
    3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC1-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\ControllerInstance
    4. In this path, ControllerInstance represents the controller instance number. For example, this number may be 0000.
    5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
    6. In the New Value #1 box, type EnumerateInactiveLink, and then press ENTER.
    7. Right-click EnumerateInactiveLink, and then click Modify.
    8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    9. Exit Registry Editor.
