    Fallout 3

    Release Date: 10/7/2008
    Platforms: PC, PS3, XB360
    Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
    Developer: Bethesda Softworks
    Gamesite: Click here
    Genres: Role-Playing
    ESRB: M

    Story:

Vault 101 – Jewel of the Wastes. For 200 years, Vault 101 has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you’ve ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.

    Gameplay:

The game will use both first-person and third-person perspective. The game will maintain the same level of gore. All gory deaths in the game will be shown in slow motion. One of the featured screenshots is of a super-mutant's head exploding in great detail.

Main character creation is implemented by specifying the character's childhood. The character's mother dies in labor in a Vault hospital, after which the player chooses the character's Traits and general appearance during the father's DNA analysis. Afterwards, the father removes his surgeon's mask to reveal a face much like the one chosen by the player for the character.

As a child in the Vault, the character receives a book titled "You're Special", whereupon you'll set the character's 7 primary aptitudes. The character receives training weapons and a PIP-boy during childhood, and the player's performance in various tests determines the rest of the attributes.

Skills and Perks are similar to those in previous games: the player chooses 3 Tag Skills out of 14 to be the character's specialties, and the character will gain a Perk every other level.

The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System, or V.A.T.S. real time with pause combat system will be implemented. Various actions cost action points, and both the player and enemies can target specific body areas for attacks, inflicting specific injuries. While using V.A.T.S., real-time combat is paused.

The game will revolve around the same three standard character archetypes and gameplay approaches of the 'Combat Boy', 'Stealth Boy', or 'Charisma Boy'.

The game will feature a new health and radiation system. The player can measure an object's radioactivity and gauge the effect it will have on the character.

Karma titles, similar to those from previous games, will grant Xbox Live Achievements on that platform.

Characters will be able to create small blasts by targeting nuclear generators and using nuclear catapults.

Yeah I'm pretty pumped about it too - been a huge fan of the series ever since the first Fallout was released all those years ago. For me, there hasn't been any games quite like the first two.

Looks great visually, but usually, in my opionion, companies that put much effort into graphics tend to not put the same effort into gameplay. So, it remains to be seen how Fallout 3 turns out. They developed this game rather quickly, as well.

The only thing really wrong with the graphics for me is lack of shadows.

yes there are shadows for characters but there is no self-shadowing, and no environment or object shadows.

Its a real time shooter, but there also is a turn based part of the game, but you never HAVE to use it, its optional, it pretty much lets you target specific parts of the body, which a % chance to hit. It helps if you suck shit at aiming. You never actually have to used the turn based system (Called V.A.T.S.), you can just manually aim (which is what I will do), but the vats system is in there because that's how it used to be in the old FO and FO2, so they sort of thew tradition in there.
