    Higher resolution or refresh rate?

Is it advisable to run a game at 8*6*32 at 85Hz or 12*768*32 at 60Hz?

yeah a higher resolution gives clearer picture [but puts more load on cpu , vid card (gamingwise)] but its better not to go below 70hz or so , better for the eyes but i dont think anything more than 70-80 makes a difference

I guess that guy only has a 15" that doesn't do 1024@75. So well its best to run 800x600 @75 for him. If its a 17", the best res to use is 1280x960@72

Well my flatron can do only 60Hz @ 1280x1024.

    I use 1024*768 @ 85Hz.The best setting for a 17" period.

Most can... including the vanilla samsungs (753s, 773s,793s etc). Its undocumented so it won't show up in the list if u enable "hide modes that this monitor cannot display". Remove the check from the box and select that res/refresh.

hmm.. If i run normal windows at 1024*768 and keep UT settings at 800*600 will the refresh rate of 85Hz be selected while playing although the windows settings is set to 1024*768*60Hz?

Won't be by default... U'd have to set it manually in the config file, or use some tool to force 85Hz rate in directx games.

My 15" Samtron monitor supports only 1024*768 @ 60Hz..while my friends
    15" LG monitor supports 1024*768 @ 75Hz...

Higher refresh rates are better for eyes...but if u're just a casual gamer and play for only an hour or so at stretch, then it won't hurt u... i think
