Improvements in Civilization V: Gods & Kings
  

I have been playing Civilization series from its first game. I have played all the games in its series and recently I saw that improvement in Civilization V: Gods & Kings has also released. The last game from Civilization series was Civilization V that released in year 2012. Since 2012, a lot of changes have happened in hardware. So to match the development, even developers must have made many changes. Can someone tell me what changes will be seen in this new game as compared to previous game?

The major improvement that you will notice in Civilization V: Gods & Kings is with the main gameplay. Developers have added new technologies, 27 new units, 13 new buildings and 9 wonders. Also some units and building are provided for modification by modders. To try out the mods developed, modders can try them in three new scenarios. Developers have also included 9 new civilizations to play with. Some of these new civilizations are the Netherlands, the Carthage, The Celts and the Mayans. These civilizations have their own buildings, units, traits and leaders to evolve into. The leaders that have been newly added to Civilization V: Gods & Kings are Boudicca, William I, Pacal the Great and Prince of Orange.

In Civilization V: Gods & Kings, developers have added religion which the player can build and change as the game progresses. You have to build faith in the game to meet the Pantheon of Gods. As the game progresses and the faith increases you will be able to create prophets who will be able to create a religion. This religion can be spread to faraway lands, enhanced and edited in ways possible. You can create a religion which is tolerant as well as conservative. This religion will affect the way your units behave. The religion will have direct effect on gold, military and the Arts of your Civilization. As the religion progresses with civilization, your units will start building such buildings that no other civilization will have. Also if your religion is properly spread, you can make allies with similar minded civilizations. But having religion doesn’t mean that other features haven’t been improved. You can conquer the world with proper management of religion, military, economics and politics. You can use any of this attributes to conquer other civilizations of the world. But beware an single bad role of dice can doom your civilization very badly.

The way in which the diplomacy takes place in Civilization V: Gods & Kings is awesome. It is very well improved and astonishing. After you build a religion, the game enters in the renaissance period. Here we can create spies that will enter other civilizations. The spy can be used to know the advances this civilization is doing, steal their technology, interfere in working of their government and change their decisions. But if your spy is caught then, it can cause a great political change leading to change in diplomacy among enemies as well as allies.

Civilization V: Gods & Kings also has introduced new scenarios to play in. The first one is the ‘Into the Renaissance’. Here you have to expand your civilization into a huge country by spreading ones kingdom all over the world. Your kingdom will be attacked by enemies like Ottoman Turks and Mongols who try to invade your country for wealth and prosperity. But protecting your kingdom against them is not enough. There will be oppressions against the religion from within your kingdom by reformers and crusaders. You have to stop them too. The second scenario in Civilization V: Gods & Kings is named ‘Fall of Rome’. Here you have to play as the ruler of kingdom of either ‘Eastern Rome’ or ‘Western Rome’. During this scenario, you have to fight against the Barbarians to protect your kingdom. In other game of this scenario, you can also play as Barbarian and destroy Rome. The third scenario of this game is named ‘Empires of the Smoky Skies’. The base environment of this scenario is in the Victorian time. This scenario will provide players with a unique technology tree that will help to develop flying airships and tanks that look like tractors. This scenario will have science fiction mixed with Victorian environment. On progressing in this fantasy scenario, you will proceed into pre-industrial world.

The city building process is also improved in Civilization V: Gods & Kings. There will be now two types of cities that a player can build. The two types of cities are mercantile and religious. Depending n this types, the game will keep on changing. Due to this improvement, the importance of the game has been shifted from gold collection and management to story and quests. The narration and the story of the game will keep changing as your city keeps changing. Mercantile cities will provide you with luxuries items and resources while religious cities will help to develop and establish religion. Having any of these cities as an ally will also affect the game in certain manner. Civilization V: Gods & Kings will also feature Vatican City and Jerusalem as religious city which will play a great role in story of this game. Also depending on the development of the cities, you can build new 9 wonders that are addition to Civilization V: Gods & Kings. These new wonders include, Neuschwanstein, the Great Mosque of Djenne, the Terracotta Army, the Great Firewall, and the Hubble Space Telescope.

I think that best improvement in Civilization V: Gods & Kings is that you will now have naval units too. This means that we can now expand our civilization across the seas as well as on deserted islands. Now I am getting excited about this game. These naval units can be used to attack other civilization from waters as well as add protection to our kingdoms and cities using waters. Also the naval units will have their own leaders and development trees to enhance.
